    Default Stop!

My 90's Peugeot has a big red STOP light on the dashboard (which I haven't seen come on much, thankfully). I've had a look round and other French cars seem to have it as well, is it a European thing or just a French thing? My BMW doesn't have one, and I've never seen it before I got the Pug. Also, why doesn't it say arretez? Much more striking.

"My 90's Peugeot" deosn't really narrow it down, but there's a couple of generalisations that can still be answered.

Can't comment on other marques either, but there's 2 levels of notification on the dashboard.

One is for when something needs attention, generally shown in orange.

A red light means that functional damage will occur if you do not stop immediately, and probably means a tow. Conditions such as no water or oil generally fulfill this criteria.

The French use STOP just as much as we do, and have done for decades, it has been assimilated into the language. Their stop signs say STOP.

Besides, if you wanted to convey a critical message on the dashboard, why use more characters than necessary.

    It's to capture attention.

I reckon Merde! would have worked more effectively.

    ACHTUNG ALLES LOOKENPEEPERS
