    Default Insurance

    Shannon's 997 to insure
    1998 Peugeot 306Gti for 7k.
Bloke said it's expensive because if the airbags go off it will be a write off! as it's 12k to replace them.
Apparently not much cheaper if I drop the value?
Interested to see who you go with.
    Cheers

I'm with Shannons and find their premiums to be very competitive.

They specialise in insurance for car enthusiast, you really need to have an older car insured with them (pre 1980) to get the full benefits.

I would just go with the cheapest premium because if you have an accident of any magnitude where you bend the chassis or the air bags go off its going to be written off.

I know you love your car but when it come to insurance and accidents you need to be realistic. Modern cars depreciate like a falling brick and insurance companies need to guarantee the repair for the life of the vehicle, so you can see that it does not take much damage to write a modern car off. Also if you walk away from an accident without any injuries the car's safety features have done their job. Just walk away and collect from the insurance company and move on and purchase your next car.

This is just my worth and how i see things.

Many of use Shannons for Citroens of that era, and aren't refused - at least yet. I'd have thought they'd have covered full value up to 12k max. The huge cost isn't only the bags, it's for the destruction of the interior if they go off. I don't think they have Takatas in them.

I have my 2CV with Shannons as most other insurance companies won't insure it as they have no idea what it is. I also had the Xantia insured with them, but that will fold in the next few weeks as the Xantia is scrapped and won't be re-registered.

I'd be wary of a market value policy on a 306 GTi/GTi6. You'll probably end up getting the car written off pretty swiftly if you needed to claim. Depends what you think it's worth, of course

As Shannons tend to do an agreed value policy, they would probably do that if you asked them, it would just be a very expensive premium!
