Default Centreless Wheel Balancing - Canberra

Rather than reading the entire post, I thought I’d add an answered right up front. As at October 2018 these guys said they are happy to do them, but I’m yet to have it done:

    TYREPLUS
Address: 6-8 Botany Street, Phillip Australian Capital Territory 2606
    Phone: 02 6282 3410

    Hi,

Has anyone had any luck in getting five-stud centreless wheels balanced in Canberra?

I’ll be getting tyres sent from interstate, they’ll be expensive, so want them done right.

    What I know:

    Jax Mitchell/Fyshwick - only have a four-stud adapter.
    Tyres & More - nope
ACT Tyre, Brake and Mechanical - Braddon, nope, recalls that some Bob Jane’s used to.
Bob Jane - nope, referred me to dealer
    Beaurepairs - awaiting a reply
Gulson’s - no longer have the adapter that they used to loan out. (Said they handed all tools to Rolfe)
Rolfe - don’t really know what a Citroen is.

    Everyone I called was helpful.

Thoughts from the brains trust appreciated.

Alternatively, who are the ‘go to’ people in Sydney?

The mob down the road from Denton in Penrith would probably have the stuff - well in fact they must - because when I had XVSs fitted to the D there circa 2011 all the wheels were balanced off car.

Bob Jane in Belconnen have done my 205 14" pepperpots. If I remember correctly they did them on a Saturday morning when it's a bit quieter for them as they had to put a different fitting on their machine.

Sydney - Jax tyres Artarmon. Can't confirm 5 stud but they had no problem doing my 4 stud centreless cyclones 3 months ago. The manager, Chris is ex Peugeot service Dept.

    Hi,

    also call the various tyre shops in Phillip - the one near the BMW dealer used to do them for Renault 'holeless' rims. They are now a Michelin dealer. Used to be Woden Tyre and Exhaust and are now called;
    TYREPLUS
Address: 6-8 Botany Street, Phillip Australian Capital Territory 2606
    Phone: 02 6282 3410

If worse comes to worse mount the tyres and take the whole car to Queanbeyan Truck Align (Canberra Truck Align - Total wheel alignment for Trucks Trailers 4WDs Buses Cranes and Cars) and they can spin them up via a remote machine that will balance the rim, tyre, brake disc/drum as one unit, if that makes sense.
I took a 1924 vintage car there to get the wheels and tyres and drum brakes all balanced together as one as it hadsome severe scuttle shake at one point in time. Best to check with them first over the phone if they can do a 'more modern car'.

The least you can do is buy him a doughnut as well as a cup of coffee. At least the doughnut has a hole in it.

There are holeless doughnuts. Usually they have a jam centre.

I have no purist commitment to originality & my fall-back position is to get holes cut in the wheels to facilitate balancing (an easy task according to my wheelwright & of no structural significance). So far, my local Bob Jane owner assures me that he'll keep getting the adapter plates.

    cheers! Peter
