Default Red Bull Billycart Grand Prix - Aussiefrogs entry?

I just saw the most hilarious ad on tv for the Red Bull Billycart Grand Prix which is to be held on 28 November 2004 in Melbourne. The event will be staged in Lansdowne St East Melbourne, between Fitzroy & Treasury Gardens.

How about we do an Aussiefrogs entry or 3? A Pug, Cit and Renault, with a challenge between all three marques? Could be a bit of fun!

See the link above - http://www.redbullbillycartgp.com.au for full event details and info.

The event is a 500m long race - the track is lined with hay bales. A team of 4 pit crew can assist, and launch control is permitted (pick the strongest pit crew members, fire them up with Red Bull and let em push!)

    Applications close 30 June 2004.

Like I said, just an idea, but could be a bit of fun I wasn't too sure where to put this, so if we do go ahead with it, I propose to move this thread to the "Motorsport" section

I AM SO KEEN DEKA!!!!! THIS IS A TOP IDEA!!!

I have a long history in producing some awesome (IMO) looking BK's, and they usually go pretty darn quick too...fitted with a choice of racing slicks, and/or all-terrain tyres, depending on the track at hand. Judging by this contest - we'd be looking at employing slicks tho!

Check out the attached photos of my previous karts!!! (let me know what ya think of them?!)

This is my most recent creation - A Special Edition, '97 mk11 Bk, with custom canary yellow paint and white racing stripes! This model was the first BK fitted with inflatable tyres all round, for the ultimate cruise-mobile! Only by Power Productions

Heheee.....! and this is one of the earlier BK models I produced.

A rare Pearl Black '95 Mk1 BK, complete with large rear inflatable tyres for the extra comfort Plus the extra hard compound rubber on the front rims for extra grip on those smooth surfaces.

I saw something on Ch 10 (i think) last weekend or the weekend before with highlights of the 2002 billy cart grand prix. Looks like a hell of a laugh.. The prizes look great too!
Murray : And there are flames coming from the back of Prost's car as he enters the swimming pool!
James Hunt: Well that should put them out then!

Dont forget the STI badge if it's a 206 model

for a shape that the public will recognise as classic french, it has to be a 2CV

    Or a DS.

What are the publics most memorable shapes for each mark? (current memory - not past)

    Peugeot ... 504, 205, 206 ?
    Citroen ... 2CV, DS, BX ?
    Renault ... R12, R16 ?

We are kinda bias and probably can't tell.

Why not just a billycart in the shape of a frog? It could work...

    i reckon thatd work.

    scoring works like this though:

    50 points for a style/creativity of cart
    50 points for race placing
50 points for how your team "performs" on the day.

So winning the race doesnt realy mean much at all. You need a good idea fior your cart and you need to ham it up for the crowd all day.

you can have sponsors, but youre only allowed to display your sponsorship in a 50x50 area max.

    Default Billy carts

This idea sounds like a real hoot.
I think that if one is going to put in a competing cart that bears one of the French symbols then it should really be innovative; the construction should be a little out of the ordinary.
When I was a mere youngster, my brothers and I were not satisfied with just a billy cart, no way, we had suspension on them. Not just any old suspension, but the best that could be found to model on, the 203 rear end complete with Panhard rod etc.
Where did the springs come from you might ask? Of course, they were the valve springs from the 203 or 403 heads; sometimes the single spring , sometimes both springs, ie inner and outer.
The Billy carts could be with ball bearings which really trained you for correcting slides and spins. Bigger billy carts with larger wheels with solid rubber tyres were built as well and could easily negotiate the dirt tracks down from Ferntree Gully's Picnic spot, the tower there.
We even used independent suspension similar to the Jaguar Mark 10. The different types of suspension really gave different handling possibilities.
We even had another name for our carts, Billy cart was a bit too demeaning for the extra technology (not to mention the extra nails and things).
Regretfully, we never had a good front suspension and really that is not necessary.
I hope someone can build a billy cart that is fitting for the occassion.

Now this sounds like some fun... Never ever built one when i was a kid...

Did some fibre glassing when i was at school, but would have to look up again, how to do it!!

Now if someone goes ahead... Come race day... We'll need to see photo's of the aftermath!!!
