Well, this news won't please those who yearn for the day the automobile as we know it becomes extinct.

Doesn’t actually say what it is... Is is exhaust temperature or combustion temperature? Knock the latter down and you fix some emission but kill off the thermal efficiency- may as well go petrol and save manufacturing costs!

And reading between the lines, this might get them past the next emission standard but not the one after.

And the “thousands of jobs” line is a bit silly... There are thousands of jobs in the automotive sector, they say it like those jobs won’t be moved over to building hybrids or EV...

Although you might lose some jobs in the healthcare industry...

We should ask JoBo about that! You have about the same chance of dying from cancer caused by vehicle emissions as cancer caused by cigarettes, alcohol or processed foods. Don't even mention genetic defects and predisposition..........

If you insist. So far we only have "mounting evidence suggests", a phrase used by academics when they think they're onto something but can't quite prove it. Air pollution in Australia falls below internationally and locally accepted limits. If these standards are lacking, why have they not been changed?

You may be right! What our country and a lot of the world needs is a Murdoch filter fitted to every TV station and newspaper press.........

Question is, is it all too late given the the European public have turned away already.

    Icon14 Diesel lives!

Damn the Diesel knockers will have to find new jobs though I suspect they will just move agencies, or join "resistant" regulators...

Interesting, I shall read in detail on the weekend.

It is worth noting though that it is a tier 1 supplier to the diesel industry writing this, so I do wonder if analogies can be drawn with “big tobacco”’s efforts...

Was it Bosch that was supplying the computers for the Diesel engine management to Volkswagen?

Yes and they recently officially apologised for their behaviour.

I’m confused as to why Bosch made a point of apologising for doing something they told downstream buyers (VW) not to do.........really odd!

Because, possibly, they didn't foresee VW being a cheating, underhanded and utterly ruthless pack of bastards?

    Hi
Getting away from the general backbiting and national slurs, is this the general idea they are trying to say; If the catalyst is actively managed for temperature by, I guess post injection of diesel, the NOx can be kept to a much lower figure which is below the likely next standards. Also the extra fuel used is only when starting cold and shutting down, and will only amount to a small extra use in real world urban use.
There is no extra physical technology required. Bloody hard to read that paper.

Seems like a more sophisticated management method plus enough change to make trading up mandatory rather than an ecu update.

Also ignores the particulates... And from what I can tell only gets them past the next standards cycle.
