It's happening to everyone. DCSI has an nginx hosting server, which has had limits set.

    Definitely not just you, Bob,

The resource limit reached is becoming the Af "home page " of late.

Several times this morning and several times last night as well.

It's a way of rationing bandwidth by the hosting company, DCSI in Victoria.

nginx calls it the leaky bucket algorithm. Imagine the holes in the bucket are the source of output to users, with a configurable maximum rate of leak. Input to the bucket are user GET requests, which, if they exceed the output capacity of the holes are allowed to fill the bucket. At some point the bucket overflows, that is the server ignores all new requests and sends the familiar resource message instead.

I see the "leaky bucket" as a container for gold coins. When they leak out: the hosting service grinds to halt.

As an incentive for website owners to top up the buckets with some more coin.

Resulting in their users having the "user experience" restored.

Edit: The truth of the matter is the hosting server is oversubscribed with hosted sites. Hence the time of day slow downs.

    oversubscribed with hosted sites
I don't think so. I posted the list of sites hosted on that server in AF earlier, and AF is the only one likely to have more than a tiny following. I think the rationing is about how much they will deliver (incurring transmission costs and overhead) for the money AF pays.

For many, many years with the same hosting company we never experienced any resource limit issues. Even with several hundred users concurrently connected.

These problems started, when , after the last crash, AF was generously moved to another server.

The company has had a new owner, Connectivity IT, since 2016 and new staff.

Since the site hides behind an intermediary I haven't posted the actual server, but the hosted sites are determinable.

And the problems started around a year ago.

The previous owner was Froggy car enthusiast. And also hosted a number of car club websites AFAIK.

I've found the other sites too.. a few Gippsland based small businesses, many based In the Hospitality Industry.

I can't really see why the hosted sites are in any way "secret". After all they all on the net , with websites. And the discovery tools are readily available.

Since AF's owner has chosen to hide behnd a content delivery system, I thought it would be courteous not to post the name and true IP of the server. I left it DCSI as that is common knowledge.

And Cloudflare, Af's CDS , has a far from stellar reputation for their choice of customers.

    Hint: Google "cloudflare Islamic state"

I suspect most hosts choice of cloudflare is to improve connectivity for Non Australian users. And also improve site security.

I was getting "wall to wall" Resource limit reached message from 15:00-16:30 today. And the same earlier in the morning.

What is really frustrating is to compose a reply and press submit, only to get "the message". Fortunately many times it's saved and can be resubmitted later, if and when you can reconnect.

I have had the "508 message" a few times today but definitely not wall to wall, I have also noticed that AF has been a little slow this morning.

I have 165 hosted sites at present, and I suspect there might be 30 more. I stopped the search. Apart from us, it's all local businesses and small organisations. We are resource limited by configuration.

    Hi
Just a comment on the performance of AF on my normal laptop. W7 and I usually use Firefox. Been ok with minimal problems but often can reach the limit at times. Slowish lately as is all my stuff with the holidays etc.
But for other reasons I opened Win Explorer and have been using it today. It is hopeless with AF and seems to refuse to go back correctly. ?? I have to use the masthead to bring up the list for next sub forum. It does seem to work OK on other forums ? Hmmm...

I always preferred the 404 error.
Although how having a 404 could ever be an error....

I explained it in the other thread. No user's OS is immune, as the problem is a setting on the hosting company's server. It is set to limit the server load.

It's been good over the Xmas break -reduced load from the other sites hosted by the server ?

Anyway it will get back to it's old, slow self once the sites start getting more traffic.
