Default SEVS and changes to the proposed personal import rules

In case you missed it this week, the 'done deal' resulting from Ricky Muir's efforts has been canned. If you thought you might have been able to import a sub 500km new car from a RHD market, think again. I guess it really comes down Muir no longer being a Senator.

Parts of the car industry are clearly happy:

While others are definitely not and take the time to explain the wider changes to the SEVS system:

John Cadogan pulls no punches on the personal new car import backflip here:

His commentary on this issue is not all that unreasonable.

I'm posting this for information, not as an invitation to run a thread on domestic politics. It would be tempting, but if you have strong feelings about this issue, please take it up with your local MP.

I should note that Paul Fletcher is the member for Bradfield and his office is in Lindfield if you are a local. To be elected in Bradfield, all you need is a pulse and Liberal pre-selection. It's almost the safest Liberal seat in the country.

People in Bradfield should send this Cadogan video to the minister.

Yep, there goes your chance to buy that Euro diesel estate manual from brand XX. You will buy what the importers decide you will buy.

    Hi
Australia has a CABAL in just about all its industries and it works against the consumer always. It has always been so and the pollies are in on the act too. Never to be changed while the Libs are in that is for sure
Just been proved in the recent approach to another question. A result of our history of settlement and government by the ruling classes from the old country.

I can see many SEVS compliance and seller business closing down.

The loss of people mover market is going impact badly on the industry.

Just imagine, if you care to, the responses from Alexander if he were still here ... Cabal? Nonsense! No cabals or collusion to be seen here! And so on, ad infinitum ..
