    Default Froggie Hosting.

I'm in the process of putting together the Peugeot Car Clubs WA website. Basic layout, design is about 80% and content is on it's way (still alot to do though and approval required by the committee).

Which leads me to the question .. where to put it?

If our local DCSI crew is not interested, rather then use some of our own personal webspace (e.g. my bigpond or optus accounts) is there some groups who can do it for free ? (without all the silly banner ads and pop-ups). At the moment it doen't top more then about 500kb of space (250kb of that is 1 PDF, the membership application form).

Also what is the cheapest way of getting a domain name and re-direction services.

    XTC,

Try Zoneedit.com - they redirect domains, do domain cloaking etc - one of those will do it for you. All for free.

What sort of domain are you after? A .asn.au one - for clubs and associations? I have used http://www.connectwest.net.au in the past to register .asn.au domains (they used to be the exclusive agent for .asn.au but appear not to be anymore). I've just been to their site and realsied they're now wholly owned by iiNet.

The registrar I use now is TPP Internet http://www.tppinternet.com

If worst comes to worst and you have to pay for hosting, try Aussiehosts.com (cheap, good service).

I use smartyhost, costs about $100 a year for 100 Meg of space. You also get good things like MySQL, PHP, Perl and a nice web admin interface. Also a shell prompt to the (Linux) command line.

    http://www.smartyhost.com.au/

This means that you can run all those cool web applications that use PHP. (Portals, photo gallarys, chat boards, forums etc). I like PostNuke and have 3 sites that run it at smartyhost.

Smarty host do provide domain name registration but I use Ghandi, a french outfit that charge about 12 euros a year, you own the domain so all email and web hit get re directed to your web hoster.

    http://www.gandi.net/

    Good luck with it.

I use GoDaddy.com for domain registration and frontroom.com.au for hosting.

There are plenty of Hosts in Aus' who will give you 25-50MB of storage and host your domain for $100 AUD Per Year.

I registered a .com domain for $5(US) per year and get it hosted for $100 (AUD), I have done this with many sites. These hosts also give you MSQL, PHP, CGI Bins and other stuff which would enable you to run forums, etc..

I know TPG do a good deal.
also a firm called "WebDirect" do a great deal of $100 per year for 50MB and all the extras like email accounts, PHP, MYSQL, etc. and free tech support
