Doesn't look very much like a real SMH headline, so methinks this is a prank for today.

HOWEVER, the new greenie Mayor of Paris HAS banned all car club meetings/gatherings in Paris. He is completely anti car and as such is taking it out on car clubs amongst other things. This affects ALL car clubs, not just ricers etc. So don't you go arriving anywhere in that pre war Traction Avant etc!

Unfortunately knowing how lacking in imagination pollies are and how they are constantly led about by the nose or whatever other portion of their bodies is protruding at the time, by vested interest groups & "Sir Humphreys", I hope some numbnut in the RTA doesn't get any ideas along those lines; it's not beyond the realms of possibility.
Read some of the "Road safety initiatives" at times and you'll see what I mean.

I don't like saying it but after being hammered by a NSW Ford xr6 club a couple of weekends ago I have a bit of sympathy for what Carr is saying if not for his solution.

I drive the highway between the ACT and Kiandra every second weekend. That bit of road is a favourite for organised club tours. I can tell you that the joy that a bunch of scumbags in overated Ford shitboxes might gain from touring the country at unsafe speeds and ignoring most of the basic road rules is nothing compared to the terror inspired in some of the folks who meet them head on when they are on the wrong side of the double lines at 140 plus km/hr.

I was lucky because I was at least going in their direction. However I did have to endure being overtaken several times across double lines by this line of thirty or so idiots as they tore along between hamburger stops (ie: literally driove 40km at break neck speed and then buy another hamburger). I witnessed three critical incidents in the space of the 40km between Adaminaby and Cooma, my guess is that was only a fraction of the dangerous behaviour that took place on that bit of road and which required traffic coming the other way to take evasive action.

Basically these f*ckwits should be prevented from turning poorly maintained public roads into race tracks. They are basically a bunch of limp d*cked f*ckwits who have found each other.

On another but related tack there is a regular toll of deceased bikers who make the same tour along the alpine roads up there...same sort of stuff..cross the double lines, misjudge bends or meet Skippy up close and whammo.

Before Carr is bashed here to oblivion just ask yourself whether there may not be some truth in what he is saying. For the record I am not a Carr supporter on most things.

    Boggy,

I think you should retrace the postings on this thread; it's a First of April type posting...

I don't agree that whenever a Pollie sees somebody doing something he doesn't like that a blanket ban on the entire community is the way to go & unfortunately all of these dimwits in these Government Departments think the same way on this point.
We had these "anti-hooning" laws brought in up here, just in time for the Election and they proudly displayed the stats on TV and in the papers. "WOW...lookee thare Mar...thur Guvermunt's gittin' tough on them thar young fellers alright." Real red neck attitude that succeeded in having a pack of dopey whallopers wandering around the Gold Coast videoing cars they thought looked likely targets (as they'd been told by those who thought (read copied) the hoonog laws) and then set about verballing up the soft targets.
And where were the real hoons while all this was going on? In the outer suburbs doing what they were doing before but with less chance of getting caught due to the manpower all being tied up in the part where car buffs meet; not the hoon types.
These things can be controlled to a point, but blanket bans are just tools Politicians use to paint a picture with the public when seeking re-election and have nothing to do with road safety; They work to two basic principles:- How much revenue can we raise? - and, will it increase my electoral popularity.
Common sense, saving lives and practicality are never a consideration.

Apparently they do read the boards etc..
All i can assume is that they find & know the route you travel, find a nice hidey spot & wait to get everyone in a real safe spot, where there's been no accidents for the last 15billion years.

I think we should all think about this the next time any of us goes on a cruise, we should all obey the laws 100% of the time (overtaking may change things i understand), but at least get a good name for the frenchies & be polite & careful on the roads!

Bob Carr doesn't even have a licence - how can any car-lover (of whatever type) be confident that anything he does in relation to road enforcement won't just be driven by how much money he can make (just more taxes under a different name).
