It's not membership Kim, you pay nothing for others to place in the "philosophy" or "belief" group

So, are you suggesting I create a "specialist" category in the thread just to include Kim?

that raises an interesting philosophical question ie whether there is a category defined as 'not part of any category'.

What's the problem? In statistics it's classified as "undefined" or uncategorized. Ie

Odd ball data that is collected but is effectively of little use. However needs to included to achieve the 100% in the end count.

Example - it's better classify a response as invalid, rather that detail the survey form was folded up like a paper glider or had obscenities written on it. Or was used for a purpose other than answering the questions thereon.

And it does happen - often

i would think "removing the software" is an over simplification. after all "the software" in question switches from normal/polluting mode into test conditions/ non polluting mode. it will be interesting to see exactly what is done in the final result.
Presumably it would have to be permanently set to 'test' mode to satisfy the environmental specifications (and the respective governments). In the non-polluting mode the vehicle is illegal in a lot of places so is not an option.

May not please a lot of the punters that bought the things though to have a drop in power and/or drivability.
    But they can sue Volkswagen.

I imagine a meeting took place about 8 years ago in which engineers and programmers thought up this little scheme. I wonder if one of them said,

"What could possibly go wrong, I mean, what's the worse that could happen?"

The first few "Hitler" video's on various topics were sort of funny, then they started to get a little passé. Now they have well and truly "jumped the shark"

"Admonishment tends to cruel any attempt at humor "

What the ph**que is that supposed to mean? Is there a verb "to cruel" that I've not so far encountered?

And, I ask - isn't this thread supposed to be dealing with the impact of VW dieselgate's scandal on France ?

(BTW - haven't looked up gonflable but suspect it may have something to do with balloons?)

    For your edification

    verb (cruels, cruelling, cruelled)

    [WITH OBJECT] Australian informal
Spoil or ruin (an opportunity or a chance of success):
Ernie nearly cruelled the whole thing by laughing
[ Late 19th century: perhaps influenced by the idiom queer someone's pitch (see queer)]

And, I ask - isn't this thread supposed to be dealing with the impact of VW dieselgate's scandal on France ?
Yes, in an ideal world, but AF is known to have threads stray a little.

BTW - haven't looked up gonflable but suspect it may have something to do with balloons?)
Your are "warm" like the air that is being expelled. But the meaning is far more specific.

Must admit had not seen that one. I think it was one on the Essendon drugs kerfuffle that did it for me.

Usually find them a bot heavy handed and obvious, not really witty at all.

Oh and while we are in a grumpy mood (well I am anyway), why is it that anything even remotely scandalous now has an entrance added to it???

As in VWgate, dieselgate (see post 120 above) etc. After 40 plus years can't we be a bit more inventive. Hell that was even before they "jumped the shark"!!!

Ah now that feels better, tis great thing to be retired and allowed to be a grumpy old man (well perhaps not the old bit hopefully)
