Interestingly, they were in the process of de-commissioning the Jerrara Dam (ie removing the dam wall).

Looks like the authorities have outsourced the problem to God.

A long way from me. It's a smallish town water supply dam, partly removed, on a tributary of the Minnamurra River. It's rural-ish near the dam, but there has been the usual urban sprawl at Minnamurra. Most of the rain has come ashore down that way. Sydney got the drier return segment of the cyclone.

My problem was large hail not the rain with it, and the damage it caused. The council had two compost collecting sweeper trucks around at breakfast to give the impression nothing had happened. The road had been invisible under the debris. Ausgrid for some reason decided to inspect the electrical system also, though no trees were down in the public spaces.

You will be forever dammed to roll a large boulder uphill every day only to have it roll back down again!

It's actually not that far from my place but absolutely no threat to us here.

Jerrara dam was built decades ago as a water supply for Kiama when council was responsible for water supply. As Kiama and the area grew (Minnamurra, Jamberoo, Gerringong etc) it became Sydney Water's responsibility to supply water from the much larger systems that supply the Illawarra area.

Since about the 60s Jerrara dam was nothing more than a dam with some parkland and farms around it. It had no proper spillway and in times of heavy rain became a minor risk to downstream properties (farms) for a possible wall breach. KCC recently committed the $2m to have the dam professionally removed - and the heavy rainfall has assisted.

The wall did not collapse and the water that was exiting the dam equalled that which was entering.

Here is a link to some overhead shots.

I think some of those fence lines and the cattle spoil a good water skiing venue.
