The peoples statue... Just watched a show about it... Fascinating stuff... I ve always thought Melbourne could do with something similar... But what comes first... providing for the homeless or the tourists...

Just think - the Melbourne knock-off could straddle the Yarra, with a sluggish brown tide ebbing quietly beneath.

    The French have the guillotine.

The Americans have the electric chair.

Owning a French car, I can understand why the French never ventured into electrifying death. Delusions of grandeur need to be tempered to ones abilities.

Alexandre Gustav Eiffel built the Statue of Liberty in New York 1885 and also came up with the plans for the Eiffel Tower which he built in 1889. There wasn't room for both in Paris obviously.....

If there electric chairs were anything like the electrics in their cars half the condemned would survive.

If memory serves me correctly, there is a Statue of Liberty in Paris. On the river Seine quite close to the Eiffel Tower, but it is no where the same scale as the one in New York.
I can't remember if it was built by Mr Eiffel as a practice run for the big one or if it was built afterwards, it's been 25 years since I've been to Paris, time for another visit I think!

Île aux Cygnes, off the Pont de Grenelle. There are more - Liberty replicas appear to be a French hobby, complete with the butch headgear.

To see the statue of David in his purpose build Museum at Florence is a sight to behold.

Apparently there are 4 exact copies made from original marble from the same quarry. One is in Las Vegas and one is on the Gold Coast at varsity lakes.

Seems like sacrilege to make copies really..

In our modern, everybody is offended over something society we need to see an exact replica of this statue on display, but with the naughty bits pixelated out. That's right- a bunch of 1/4" cubes, in marble, instead of David's full glory.

Michelangelo wasn't only, ahem, modest, but he forgot to perform a certain operation.

I understand the statue in Las Vegas has been modified in that department as a lot of Afro-Americans couldn't identify what it was.

Do we really need to get into the grower-vs-shower debate?
