Default European Union car registrations turned around in 2014

New car registrations have been drifting down in E.U. for six years but lifted 5.7% in 2014. The figures by country say something about the population's economic optimism. Spain up 18% and Portugal 35%, UK 8% and Germany, 3%. France only managed 0.3%.
Looking at which manufacturers benefited most, there seems to be some correlation with those that had all new model introductions.. Renault Group beat the field with 13.3% growth made up of 9% Renault and 24% Dacia. PSA gained 5.8% with Peugeot branded models and only 1% with CitroŽn.
The German luxury brands Audi,Merc. BMW underperformed the improvement as did PSA's DS range.

These figures show that the market is responding to economic stress by shifting down from the premium brands and segments, although PSA claim and improvement in sales price and margin per vehicle. Against that trend the new Jeep Renegade lifted Jeep for Fiat 70% and Volvo were up 12%.

Against this background of a modest turnaround in the EU and a flat French market, the Russian market dropped significantly. This has particularly hurt PSA along with poor South American results. However, in the land of their major partner, China, they for the first time sold more cars than in France.

Rising unemployment. A President waging war in several Muslim countries and wringing every last emotional tear from the murders commited by terrorists in France.
