    Default ahh..the realisation

You will all probably laugh, but I was just walking in the hot sun to get some lunch and realised....here I am thinking about spending chunks of cash to "increase" the performance of my humble 306 and turn it into a fire belching, neck snapping weapon (maybe not that much money!) and then it hit me....
I should save the money, sell my car and buy a GTi6 to start with! After reading all the posts about performance upgrades it seems that even after spending say, $5,000 on a 1.8 I'd still be nowhere near the GTi6 (welcome to correct me if I'm wrong) and I wouldnt have all the nice interior bits. Anyone got a nice low mileage 99-00 GTi6 the dont want anymore?

Now of course I may be just a *little* biased here but yep I pretty much agree with you. The exception being unless the mods are going to increase performance significantly more than a gti6 and the total cost is less than getting a gti6 to the same level, then I can see a point to it.

Also, unless you plan to keep the car forever, in terms of resale point of view, a highly modded car doesn't fetch much. I know several people who've found that out the hard way, a rule of thumb probably being 'spend 20% extra on the cost of the original car to get 10% extra performance and lose 10% on its resale value'.

And nope, sorry I don't have a low mileage '99 gti6 for sale. I have a '98 gti6 but it's definitely not for sale yet!

    Good luck!

oooohhh, the silver one looks tasty, although I dont generally like silver, but this looks good with only a 47000 k's, I could learn to like it. I just hope it hasnt been pranged or previously stolen. Also, If i return my car back to standard, will i get a better price (alloys wheels, stereo, lowered) or would these small mods be appealing to a younger buyer?
I really would like to join the GTi6 club

I don't mind the colour silver at all, I think it has a lot of advantages, especially the fact that it doesn't look as dirty after a bit of rain like some of the darker colours.

It could be a different car, but I'm pretty sure that same car has been advertised for many months. I remember seeing it advertised when I was shopping for gti6's around July 2002. From what I remember, the owner lived in Russel Lea and wanted 24,500 for it then. If he's getting desperate to sell it, gives you some price leverage.

If it passes all your preliminary checks (and it should have complete service records with such low kms), get it checked out by a Pug specialist who can tell you if it's been in a serious prang. As for being stolen, you can check online or call REVS to confirm (you'll need VIN and rego etc).

The other thing to know is the 2000 model came out with some small updates such as fully colour coded side strips and badge changes. There may be other small changes, check the 306 thread's around for detailed info.

    cheers,
    Jude

You getting personal Jimmy boy? I love the gti180 mate, but you could almost buy 2 gti6's for the price of a gti180.

And you could buy about 100 lada niva's for the price of a gti-6 (that's still not saying much)

Probably the most significant changes for the MY00 update are standard side airbags and the H7 "clear crystal look" headlight units. I think this is the time when a CD head unit also became standard equipment. Alcantara/leather trim might have also become standard thent too? Not sure. Oh and the Peugeot badge on the steering wheel and H-gate diagram on the shifter are in shiny metal.

I'm sure we've fleshed this stuff out in an earlier thread though. Tracing 306 engine/trim updates through the years is like mapping out an intricate family tree..

So let me get this right. You're saying a gti-6 is to a gti180, what a lada niva is to the gti-6!?!?!?

Yer talking out of your clackhole Jim. Go and see a gti-6, or come down to Adelaide. Will give you the 6 experience first-hand heheh.

Both cars are fantastic in my opinion. Both are from different eras. Both have advantages and disadvantages. Besides looks which are subjective, performance differences I believe aren't much. The 6 has more room, the 180 has much sportier front seats.

yeah, a GTi180 would be great but thats another 10 or so grand plus you suffer depriciation, just think, in two years a GTi180 with 40,000k's could be just $28,000...that sounds tempting..ahhhh, head imploding...too...many..choices

Not knocking your car just putting things in financial perspective!

the room is i feel tha major factor

if you are single or just a couple a 206 is fine but is you need to carry extras more than occassionally i'd go the 306

the bonus with a GTi-6 is you get a spare wheel

i haven't seen a 180 yet but i have done a few miles in a 206 GTi so i can relate to the lack of space they have in them compared to my GTi-6

and the 6 spd you gotta love that box
    3 x '78 604 SL

    1 x '98 306 GTi6

    1 x secret project

1 x '98 406 STDT troop carrier and i don't care if it stinks, i don't sniff it's arse Death by wank tank

    1 x '99 406SV 5spd wagon, time to burn more fuel

    1 x 1994 605 SV3.0

WTD long range fuel tank for 605

Space is an issue, having to occasionally carry a drum kit around! or a mountain bike. Both fit my current car easily, not sure how theyd go in a 206. Another thought is build quality, at the last motor show I drooled over the 180 and its fantastic seats, but, the other interior bits felt quite loose and the gear leaver just felt plain breakable. Something i havent noticed in a 306/GTi6. (althou the warped glove box lid/door seems to be common!)
In a way a good GTi6, in my mind still feels better, not as "tarted up" as the newbie 180, cars are a strange thing!

Financial perspective my ! It's blasphemous to use the words 'lada niva' and 'gti6' in the same sentence..oops, so did I....
I know you better than that Jim!

The 180 is tasty though! I was actually trying to convince my gf to get a gti180 later this year, but mm..corners idea of buying a used one for 28 grand in a few yrs time is not a bad idea at all!

pugrambo, yup I totally agree..gotta love the 6-speed!
