Default Acoustic windscreen - worth the extra cost?

In another thread I was asking about windscreens - prices, suppliers - for my 2008 Laguna.

The dearest one I have been quoted is $600+ for an acoustic screen (which the original is).

My question - is the extra money worth it? Does the acoustic screen cut a lot of noise? Will I notice it if I replace with a non-acoustic?

Anyone with experience with both options?

    Ian.

What's an acoustic screen? Rain sensing are up around that price or more but I've never heard of acoustic

None of the young blokes with 30,000 watt amplifiers use it. Which is a shame.

    Here is an explanation

"The acoustic windscreen is a laminated glass with a layer designed to cut down noise transmission. It is claimed to reduced the noise inside the car by about 3 dB, more if acoustic front quarterlights are also fitted.

It was actually designed to allow thinner glass (reduced weight) as previously thinner glass had allowed too much noise transition."

But is it worth the money? Around $150 more than standard.

The Laguna original equipment is an acoustic screen.

So the thinner glass, intended to make the world intrude less - did it contribute to an unfixable crack when the rock hit your screen?

Very good point! Perhaps this makes the decision for me :-)
