The PFA, an industry benchmarking resource of the French auto suppliers reports that production has declined from 2.6 million vehicles in 2006 to 1.74 million in 2013. Quality, as judged by parts rejected, has improved 10 fold since 1996 but there are still fifteen production sites getting 2000 parts returned per million. Three sites have achieved zero over two years (which is the global benchmark). In terms of stock turnover no French site yet meets global best practice. The chief of PFA says that a number of the managers of the smaller suppliers in France remain isolated from the world scene.
