My first driving lesson was at midnight on my birthday, the exact time my Lerner's Permit came into effect It was around the block in the small town we lived in driving the old Holden HQ ute. Of course I had learned to drive at the farm in a tractor, graduating to the Toyota Landcruiser and sometimes my grandfather's 504 diesel.

According to a google search on your question, "What is the 505?"....

    MSI - U-505 Type-IXc U-boat
The U-505 is a German World War II Type-IXc Unterseeboot (submarine) that was captured
in battle on the high seas by boarding parties from the USS Guadalcanal ...

Pfft. I lasted 10 minutes out of 40 in my driving lesson. Ended up telling the bloke to shove his Daewoo Espero up his @rse and take me back, told him he could have the money too. He ended up telling me that I'd need at least 15 more lessons to pass. I went in the next day and got 100%, didn't stuff up once. Money grabbing no hoper fools. I'm sure there are good ones, but this bloke was terrible. Terrible car too.

    Good luck Donna!

Np. 300,000km+ does not go well on a Daewoo Espero!

Small point, but XTC206's question was "Was it the 505?" and not "What is the 505?"

Nick, I also would tell my instructor to buzz off if he rocked up in one of those Daewoo's.

    Q. You know why they called it a Daewoo?
    A. It lasted longer than a day and they all cheered WOO!

Yeah, getting a little OT here....

So, Donna, How did your lesson go?

Interestingly, "espero" in Spanish means "I wait", or alternatively, "I hope". You'd think they'd research these things!

I was told that Nova in spanish meant something like "doesn't go". Put's a new spin on the Holden Nova or Chevy Nova.

Yes, "no va" means "doesn't go" in Spanish, sort of. But, they don't use the verb "to go" in relation to cars. The car "functions", or one of several other things, but not "go" or "work".

In any case, it's 2 words, so the emphasis of "no va" is different to "nova", which is an important thing in Spanish. It's like buying a dining set called "notable". We wouldn't think that it had no table.
