    Default Looking for a challenge?

Todays West Australian has an interesting article - West Wheels p8 Idle Torque

It provides details of a plan of a Peugeot 403 owner to drive from Perth to Paris. There are currently three cars committed to the trip commencing in May 2015. The route includes travelling through Malaysia, Indo China and China before heading on to Mongolia and Russia.

With three Peugeots participating does that imply that other French cars aren't participating. Surely there should be a Renault and Citroen presence in such an epic journey.

Are any of the aussiefroggers members involved in this fantastic adventure?

There might be a few problems locating Indochina these days.

Given we're talking 403 Pugs, that is the correct name.

This exactly the kind of thing I am keeping my R12 for. Too bad they didn't say anything. Or maybe they didn't want a reliable car to come along?

    Is it?

I recall Indochina ceased in August 1945 when the Japanese surrendered. At this time Ho Chi Minh proclaimed what was Indochina the Democratic Republic of Vietnam and assumed power.

The first 403 came off the production line in 1955 AFAIK. The first 203 came off the production line in 1948 AFAIK.
Therefore neither vehicle would have likely to have been found in Indochina. However it's likely 202s were imported to Indochina.

It is still there (Indochina) I'm reliably informed. Just the names have changed!
Just like Gaul, Portus Magnus and Mesopotamia still exist ? With changed names.

It's not like Gaul - it still exists, and is a geographical/cultural region. The former French state was narrowly named, and may have become something else, but the name as a region of separate states lives on.

Think of West Indies as a similar region name.

I've been in touch with Barry and he'd welcome other French marques so schlitzaugen can bring his R12. John Waterhouse offered the opinion that a R12 wagon, with the rear beefed up, would be the car to take!

Ha. Missed it by that much!

    Well, ten years.

On the other hand, what's ten years between friends?

Thank you rmac, but I don't think I'd be ready in a year with preparations. I would love to do it but it will have to wait a bit longer.

As for the car, I would like to take a car as is and I think the 12 wagon suspension would cope in stock form. Perhaps just don't load it like a camel.
