Default Car sales in France April 2014

Car sales picked up 5.2% on April last year in a difficult market where there is some pretty heavy discounting. PSA and Groupe Renault picked up market share and their sales grew 7.6%.
    By marque
    Pug 7.5%
    Cit 1%
    Renault 14.4%
    Dacia 44.1%
    Nissan 25.9%

BMW had a sad month, with their Rolls Royce sales down 66% - In April 2013 they sold 3, last month - just one.
Groupe Renault cars dominate the top 10 by model, with the Clio, Captur, Sandero, and Duster leading their segments. They are pushing Hyundai back who had benefited from the move down market. GM have retired Chevrolet from the market and Opel picked up 8.3%

GM are demonstrating how to play with the brand recognition and are calling themselves Opel in France while they dropped this largely unkown brand in Australia, which is going to see the Opel's again but branded Holden.

Renault Group had 84.4% of the French market? That's domination. Citroen's market share is close to the three French brands combined here.

Thanks for the clarification Gerry. That's still some pretty big growth from Dacia and Nissan.

With the economy in France on the decline and the car market downsizing, Renault made the right call in bringing in the low cost Dacias. They are critical now to keeping up the numbers in France.
