    'Chick-magnet' cars revealed
    By Chris Tinkler
    January 25, 2004

IF $92,000 is not too high a price for a dream date, any Aussie bloke is sure to snap up a high-class lady with a BMW Z4, according to a new guide to "chick magnet" cars.

The sleek open-roofed two-seater rated tops in the "how to impress test", hailed as the machine for luring the most discerning, gorgeous women.

In a blow for Holden, test drivers said its Monaro CV8 muscle car had little success turning female heads, even though they definitely had the respect of other guys.

For those seeking a woman from the "burbs", or a petrolhead groupie, the Ford Falcon XR6 won the thumbs up.

According to the guide, a car is often the difference between grabbing attention and being ignored.

"Like it or not, the vehicle you drive is an indispensable part of public image," researcher Antony Otera said.

But Toyota Starlet owners should not despair.

Dr Sally Cockburn, aka Dr Feelgood of 3AW, said while nice cars grabbed the attention, they could also reduce a man's chances.

"The gift wrapping always turns heads, but it's what's inside that counts," Dr Cockburn said. "A lot of women look at an expensive fast car and wonder if the man at the wheel is trying to make up for something lacking elsewhere."

Twenty cars were tested by Australian Penthouse.

Unfortunate name that Dr Feelgood has hey?

The 504's are not bad to pull chicks with.

Competing with mercs, BMW's and audi's is hard. Easy to beat the excels for style

Thinking that Aircon and a rear spoiler would help though.

    Aircon is a serious consideration

Believe it or not, the best car I ever had for impressing girls was the Rover 2000 TC when I was in high school. They loved it, I think because it wasnt a big ****** mobile, and showed that I was confident enough in myself to have no need of compensation in the form of a big flashy car. Plus it was the cute and unusual factor, as well as the wood and leather interior.

Guys always called it a poofters car, but I always just smiled back smugly as I drove off with the cute girl, and they were left to compare penis size with their mates
I tried to drown my sorrows in alcohol, but the bastards learnt how to swim

VW Beetle??? - do you think they'd go for that daisy left in the dashboard as well?

Perhaps Playboy polled all the "most discerning gorgeous women" who read Playboy - all 3 of them or I'm thinkin' women with extra bits and an awful lot of makeup did the poll

What sort of low class type is attracted by XR8s and Holden Monaros.... Pfft. We all know that the Fiat 500R is the ultimate ladies bus.

I went to school with Sally Cockburn.
SHe wouldn't shut up there either. Just loves the sound of her own voice.
In Fact at the moment I am driving a Z4. It is a truly excellent car. One of the best cars I have ever driven.
One thing I have noticed about them, from the showroom context, is that women don't like them. First time I bought one home, I felt pretty swish and I bought my 19 year old daughter out to have a look. She said "that looks funny."
One of those cars men like and women don't. So I hereby question the type of women Aussie Penthouse presumably surveyed.
