Icon8 Stupid new law in this country (UK)

Apparently traffic wardens will be walking round with rulers to check the distance from your tyres to the pavement. If you're over a certain distance (not sure how much) you get fined 100!

    It's a bit ridiculous isn't it?

Here in Aus. Victoria has had this law all my driving life 30+ yrs. Cars parked on wrong side of road were booked, for having the passenger side wheels too far from the kerb. And whilst under instruction i was told the wheels, had to be parallel, and not more than 6 to 8 inches from the kerb, and yes back in the early 70's i was booked for the latter.

Donna, how far are we talking about ? ... cause if you can't park within 6-8" of the curb, you shouldn't have your license.

Generally i was told you had to basically be inside the edge of the gutter, where the concrete meets the Bitumen.. which i think is far enough, but sometimes its just impossible.. I basically say be as close to the gutter as possible which will not be dangerous to passing traffic/pedestrians etc..

and what about a big 4wd that sticks out into traffic with its wheels against the gutter a lot more than a Mini parked 2 feet out from it! The law should relate to the cars position in relation to the street side of the parking bay, not the footpath side.

Fair point Haakon, then of course the 4WD drives off and the mini is left sticking out like a sore thumb and a danger to others and itself.
IMHO the law swells over time as those who have the cash to pay a lawyer to exploit a legal loophole do so; they can then avoid what in manny cases is a fair penalty. The legislation and law change follows. Common sense has no place in a court of law unless it is very clearly written down in pages of legalese detail. Simple solutions that avoid oportunities for corruption need to stand up to appeal.

In Hobart most of the spaces are marked out with white lines, and as long as you are inside the lines you are OK.

No, you can park multiple motorcyles in a parking bay, but not cars even if they do fit.

51cm bloody hell girl, why would you want to park on the roadway.
Oooooooh I get it now, your one of the TV stars, off Britains worst drivers.

If you can't learn to park, within 10-15 cm do everyone over there a favour, including yourself, and hand in your permit.
