Default Renault Clio Sport vs. Peugeot 206 180

I'm interested to hear people's thoughts on the comparitive strengths and weaknesses of these two models. A quick squiz on Carpoint (not sure how accurate they are) shows that in many ways there's hardly a struck match between them. Some of the differences, however, are quite pronounced:

    Price
    Clio: $33,990 (R.R.P.)
    Pug: $34,990 (R.R.P.)

    Country of origin
    Clio: France
    Pug: UK

    Maximum power
    Clio: 124kW @ 6250rpm
    Pug: 130kW @ 7000rpm

    Maximum torque
    Clio: 200Nm @ 5400rpm
    Pug: 202Nm @ 4750rpm

    Headlights
    Clio: Xenon
    Pug: Multi Parabola

    Acceleration 0-100km/h (secs)
    Clio: 7.3
    Pug: 7.4

    Clio: 15"
    Pug: 17"

    Warranty
Clio: 3 yr, 100,000km, 24 hr roadside assist
Pug: 2 yr, unlimited km, 24hr roadside assist, 6 yr perforation warranty.

    Spare rim
    Clio: Full size alloy
    Pug: Not stated

For my money, despite the Pug's better looks I'd still go for the Clio Sport.

You forgot the most important comparison point .. the Clio is FUGLY !!!!!

Sales and demand over the next 12 months should sort them out.

Point taken about sales and demand etc although that hardly defines a car's real worth.

I actually don't mind the look of the Clio... if i had to choose 1 of them over the other.. it would be a hard choice... i guess the peugeot would be slightly ahead as i love em..

Sorry Renault lovers ... IMHO it is ugly ... the Megane II looks better.

if i were to get a new car it would probably be a clio if i went renault or a C5 or xsara if i went citroen
the 206 is ok and the 1/2 a real pug but as for anything else in the pug line up they have lost me
    i'm not the only one
i know a few pug people around here that would pick the clio over a 206/307
as for the megane i'm afraid that isn't even in the race

Haven't Renault already announced an updated clio sport with 180+/-hp?, to match/beat the 206gti 180

Typical though, Peugeot take 2 yrs to bring an announced (warmed over, existing) car to market, Renault match them for power within months.....

If the Clio sport is already a match for the 180 (if only in 0-100 times) with less power, it's likely to only be better with more......maybe even enough to slip it under the 7s (0-100).....quite a feat for an NA hot hatch in that price range....

Regardless of everything else ie ultimate ability, the 206 feels (controls, interior, handling etc) like a slightly more "special"/unique car to drive than the Clio.....though the clio is undoubtedly capable, it feels closer to many other hatches out there, to drive........well to me anyway

    Maybe "special/unique", means flawed

That's OK you're entitled to your fetish .. some people think a new Magna is hot

PS: when I bought my 206GTi138 I seriously considered the Clio Sport, but although I the engine pulled harder without a doubt, the cabin layout seemed dated, the interior is too overly black, Renault reputation is seriously bad in WA, and I'm sorry I couldn't warm to the face/look. - just my opinion. At least you don't have an Astra SRi
