    Default Wire Supplier - Sydney

Does anyone know of a wire supplier in the Sydney area? I need to repair a loom and need 18awg hookup wire in a few colours and don't want to purchase 100m rolls.

Depending how much you need, 1mm square 10 wire multicore trailer flex is available in 10 m rolls from the usual suspects.

Otherwise try find a supplier of multicore instrumentation cable who sells by the metre.

Either way to get the colours and short lengths you will need to strip the cable from a multicore.

I use cable plus in Melbourne but that's probably no help.

Not enough colours in the desired size. Trailer flex might be the go.

I've had the same problem with Jaycar, surprisingly Repco had a good colour range in 10 metre rolls.

There's a company called Rhode Ireland Wiring in the USA that have every wire colour combination known to man and even the cable with woven cover for old cars. They sell by the foot and you can mail order what you want. I've used them to build a whole new motorbike harness.

    Peter,

try either Altronics in Auburn (NSW) or WES in Ashfield. If not enough colours how about using different colour heat shrink tubing (from WES) at either end for identification (sorry if I'm stating the obvious here). I have a WES trade account, if it helps.

I did try Repco, wider selection of colours but their wire was poor quality in my opinion. Large diameter outer, larger diameter strands and not many of them. RS Components sell 32x0.2mm so I'll probably go with that if Altronics falls through.

Can I suggest that you try an auto electrician as they have 15 Amp wire used mainly on trucks, B doubles etc.
You get the 7 colours same as trailer and from memory it cost me $4/metre not long ago. I'm going to use it to make my own looms for a TA. Cheers
