Default Help wanted searching for a gearbox

My friend whom I helped restore a DS and a Dauphine in India now faces a much bigger challenge. His son bought (and don't ask why) a Mitsubishi Mini Pajero 660 cc of 1996-8 era, engine type 4A30T. It has a 4 speed auto with torque converter and first generation proprietory electronics. Parts seem to have vanished off the face of the earth and so now of 6 months of searching, he is looking for a complete transmission assembly. Anyone got any ideas, anywhere in the world where we might get one?

Hmm! not sold in Oz. Japanese vehicles tend to be scrapped way before that age in Japan itself so it's a matter of working out where else it might have been sold & then hunting for a whole vehicle maybe.

So, South East Asia maybe? Indonesia? Vietnam?..... . .

Trouble is that not many folk here would have local contacts to assist.

    cheers! Peter

They were a kei car and never officially exported. A number of very grey imports appeared in Pakistan, East Africa and Singapore and the odd one or two to the UK. I thought perhaps a handful might have go to Oz. It was a very pretty adult toy with a 660 cc intercooled turbo 20 valve DOHC engine and a 4 speed auto.

    Hi,
I worked out in Micronesia for a couple of years a while back. They got all sorts of odd cars there from Japan. The importers bought the cheap ones, the odd ones etc, as the islanders did low Ks and the cars rusted away before they wore out. 4WD was a bonus in the tropics.

I do not recall one of them where I was but generally all the cars still sit out there where they expired. Go for an island tripper tour is my suggestion. If you could find a contact on the net??

Thanks for that idea. Perhaps they have been used in a resort ? Anyone seen one on holiday?
