checking why there's no heating in the car, both of the hoses going to the heater valve are hot outside the cabine, but strangely just as they pass through the firewall they get as cold as stone:rolleyes:. is it because of a blockage? i would expect that the feeding hose will be hot at least until it connects to the valve.
and how do you remove the ventilation panel? i opened the 4 torx screws on top but it won't move.

I have experienced recently a number of failures of the fan thermoswitch even though I had it replaced with the correct new part every time. When I got bored of replacing the buggers I just hardwired the contacts on so the fans run all the time when the engine is on (this is a 205GTI we're talking about).

And then one day, I grabbed one of the failed switches and opened it on a lathe carefully turning off the bronze lip that holds the plastic end on the sensor head. Inside, I found signs of water ingress and the contacts were corroded. I looked at everything and found there is a rubber seal running at the base of the plastic bit, under the lip. This seal seems to have failed and allowed water to creep inside, invade the switch and do its nefarious business on the contacts. Everything else was fine. Stupid crappy sender units and their retarted seals and lips. Made in Spain, probably during the siesta. I suppose next time I'll buy one of these I'll run a bead of RTV silicone around the lip just to make sure.

Anyway, hope this might help someone.

2-3 years is about as long as one lasts before needing a rebuild.
They never seem to get leaks either. Its always monumental blow outs (sorry motor bike riders) with little warning.
Last night doing a trailer run with lots of slow speed manoeuvring it gave way and dumped enough fluid that the rest turned to pink froth. Fuego is now dead.

What helps promote early seal failure??
Is there anything I might be doing to promote the early failure of the rack seal ??

Hi guys,
I need some advise on how to upgrade the duel fuel system on my DS to dedicated LPG, I just never use petrol!
My converter is an BRC AT90E running to a simple mixer ring above the carby.
So, should I get rid of the DS carby and replace it with an LPG throttle body, say off a BA Falcon?
Then, convert to closed loop with a DEG-103 Lambda Control Unit?
I would then remove the fuel tank and replace it with an LPG tank and swap the large LPG tank in the boot for a smaller toroidal one.
Basic outcome is to have a much neater more efficient dedicated LPG system... Thoughts?

Cheers,

I've got a 206 GTi 180.
I also just ordered an Peugeot Sport Group N. ECU, which has been out of stock for months, and just come back available.

Seeing as I'll need a re-map and setup of the ecu and cams, I'd like to do a custom exhaust at the same time to maximise the improvement. My questions are:

- Should I be looking at a cat-back system premade from remus, or janspeed or scorpion, or a full stainless system including a new cat from the headers back? Assuming best outcome, not cost is the biggest decider.

- Does anyone know of a great exhaust shop in Melbourne, that won't sniff at my poogot. I've reached out to Magic in Brisbane to see if he'd be keen to make it up there and send it down, but obviously a local shop would be more convenient.

I bought a set of carbs and a twin carb manifold the other day, but I then found when it arrived that the dizzy doesn't fit in between the branches of the manifold. It must have been used with a long dizzy stalk. This is on a 203/403 engine.
I have explained how unhappy I am about this to the seller and he has decently agreed to accept it returned..
But before I post it, I thought I'd ask you guys if you have such an extension or know an easy way to do one?
It would need to be right out of the original mount, probably sitting with the original base just above the top .

I wonder whether these extensions were ever much good? Did they cause a lot of trouble back in the day? I don't want to introduce a dodgy source of unreliability for such a silly and probably expensive reason.

What do you think?
