So I recently bought a new JVC KD-X50bt headunit and I was thinking of installing it myself, but I've run into a problem. I have a 1996 Peugeot 406 D8 and it comes with the cassette which looks like this

Now the question is, how do you get that out? I need some sort of stereo removal keys to get it out that I don't have, nor know where to get it from and I was hoping to install it over this weekend.

Also, once I have the cassette out, how hard will it be to actually wire up and fit the headunit? I have never done anything like this (except building my PC, but that is pretty straight forward)

The kit comes with this wiring harness thing

So if anyone has had any experience changing headunits and wiring them in an older D8 406, please shed some light for me :)
Thanks!

I have this 504 Pug that I got for $1500. So I gradually work through all the issues till it's just about right. Then it blows a head gasket. But with Pugs they are a wet sleeve and I reckon it was leaking from one of them anyway. So I pull the head and it's so corroded in there I can't imagine getting a new set of liners in it.
That very night I see an ad for a TI engine for sale for $400 in Queensland.
I think I did a thread on this.
We picked it up and later I fitted it to the car.
It started and we took it for the first trip.
But we didn't make it home.
About an hour's drive from home it conked, just after we had bought take away Chinese and a cupla boxes of beer.
The seats lay back so Kezza sez, let's spend the night in the car.
Well , it was a very bad night, cold , excrutiatingly uncomfortable, and the smell of petrol nearly drove us nuts. The fuel line installed a few days before had split.

Next day I called a mate who drove us home and then I took the Hilux to get a car trailer to recover the car.
Once home I discovered two things. The hose that had split on the fuel line had completely drained the tank. Plus the coil had simultaneously stopped working.
Right, so a new fuel line , a bit more fuel and a coil, but she's running like a bucket of shit.
Oil is mixing with fuel in the injector box, so the injector pump must be stuffed right? That's wot they said.
So I go on the hunt for another injector pump and as luck would have it I get one sent to me for $200.
Fitting it ain't too easy as the timing cover and hence the main pulley have to come off, but I get it swapped over and it starts momentarily but won't run.
I notice the oil line from the pump to the oil filter is loose but instead of Oil, there is petrol pissing out there. I tighten it but am now sus about the new pump.
I take the side off the old pump to have a look and find the plungers are a bit sticky but after a bit of wiggling they free up. So I fit this to the new pump but once fitted it runs, but like a hairy goat, with the oil light coming on at low revs.
I check the oil but though it was full last week it seems empty, until I notice a fine line about three times higher than it should have been on the dipstick. About then I realize that the sump is full of petrol.
I take the feed and return off the micro filter and flick the power to see which is which.
It turns out I had them reversed.
So feed pressure was opposing return and it was pressurizing, causing fuel to run into the pump and into the sump and lines to split.
It was indeed lucky for us that the coil decided to pack it in when it did or we could have become a highway Hindenberg.
So I drain the sump, fill with fresh oil, get the feed/return thing right, but it won't run. I refit the original box from the new pump and it runs but fuel pisses everywhere. I discover the old outlets were a different size hole, like carby jets, so fit the old ones there. It runs OK on 3 cylinders.
I suspect number one injector so swap it with number two.
Still number one misses, so I swap the spark plug and hey presto, a smooth running engine.
We take it for a drive and run out of fuel, but luckily I packed a spare jerry can.
The fuel gauge is a liar.
Now apart from some minor fuel leaks it seems we have a going car.
Shit that was easy.

To sum it up, I'm glad I got the new injector pump as the plungers were visibly worn in the first one, but I had to use the outlets that screw into the top of the box from the old one because I believe they are matched to the injectors.
However , had I originally had the return and feed lines correctly fitted to the microfilter unit I believe all my problems would have been solved without all the runaround.
So there's one to add to your words of good advice for newby's in the realm of injection.
The big problem with me was buying the whole unit on a pallet, never having seen it fitted, with no idea of what the parameters were, never even having seen a TI upfront and personal, at least not in living memory.
That's my excuse and I'm sticking to it.
I had thoughts about not posting this as it may seem pretty dumb, but it's the small details that can ruin the masterpiece as you well know and only Allah is perfect.
Cheers.

There are a few jobs to do, but that's the idea!

The first one is relatively simple, though - the rear window is quite possibly LESS translucent than the roof material itself!

Any ideas about the best place to get a replacement?

For a baseline, I rang the local stealer and, of course, they don't sell just the window. You have to buy the whole roof - for approximately $5000... (For the sake of sharing, the quote for a driver's seat belt was $699).

Cheers,

Howdy all,

I'm just changing the rear pads on the 308 Touring. At 96K km's they're getting a bit low and I thought it time to change them.

I'm having a little difficulty with winding the piston back into the caliper though. They seem to wind in quite easily to start with, in that I've got them back in far enough to allow 1 new pad to fit, but wind, wind, wind as I may, they seem to have stopped going back in any further. The handbrake cable is detached. The fluid reservoir lid is loose.

There is a bit of resistance to winding, but I'm reluctant to simply try and push the piston back in as I believe these brakes have to be wound back in.

Any tips ? Would it be fluid pressure in the lines ? Should I just push the pistons back in instead of trying to wind them back in ?

Thanks for any tips / shared experience.

Cheers

Justin

Sat Nav is standard, along with a multimedia system including 7" screens with bluetooth headsets for the back seats.

There appears to be only one trim level (Active) and the only option appears to be leathers seats (listed as $2,500 on the Peugeot Australia website).

The driveaway price is $41,312 or $44,917 for my suburb (not including leather seats!).
