Hello members!.
Thanks for letting me join your forum. I dont own a French car, but have a question that I need help on, that kind of relates to French vehicle!!
I bought a trailer recently and the guy who sold it said the axle was from an "old Citroen"!!
Hence, I need some help identifying what the heck model these wheels may have come off!!....Why??? Well, i am hoping to change the hubs over and need to figure out what the teeth count and diametre of the axle is!....i could take the whole thing a part...but would like to avoid the need if I have to!...just trying to work out if my changed hub idea is feasable, before I attack it with spanners!
Any ideas would be very much appreciated!
They are 3 stud, but the PCD is hard to work out...I get 160 measuring it one way and 108 doing it another way (I blame google!!)
I should add that they are 4.5x15" wheels....

Hi,

The trailer frame will be 10 x 5. Wheels outside frame. The body on the body of the trailer will be solid about 4ft high - camper trailer style. Should weigh about 500kg all up.

Now, not having done much towing other than a box trailer, I was wondering what type of suspension i should get on the trailer so it is best suited for the CX. Would it be different behind the C5 X7.

Does the extra foot of width make much difference when towing? I am thinking the CX is about 5ft wide, rear vision should still be good without the need to add bigger/wider side mirrors. Any wider might be different though.

advice from you e pertinence towers would be welcome?
The listee was a US guy named Ken Nelson who had a career in engineering plastics to the US car industry.
I quote from his post.

" The reason the front and rear fenders on the DS are mounted on rubber bushes is that the car was designed for thermoplastic body panels, like the dash - but the production rate and supply of plastics for body panels was limited when compared with sheetmetal, and it may just have been the fact that Citroen had over 10,000 orders during the Paris show that they decided to go to metal because of it's higher production rate, but kept the mounting system. This is not speculation - I got this straight from a Citroen engineer during a meeting with them in Paris around 1984......"

So, you could have been spared from the rust, only to be struck down by the UV.

I thought I'd be the first to initiate a BX appreciation thread as I believe that they are a modern day classic. As with both the DS, CX and GS they were once derided and the centre of old iron ridicule, I believe that before the end of petroleum the BX will take its rightful place in the Citroen anthology.

We are lucky enough here in Australia to have examples that are dry and rot free...unlike the UK where even the best examples have "patina" on their undersides...

It should be pointed out that the BX was Citroens most successful model and as such staved off imminent bankruptcy of the company..

We are currently wrecking the BX as fast as we did the DS back in the 80's, and usually for simple leak back hose issues.

Yes the MK2's lack the character of the MK1's but I can imagine that the same would have been said when the DS went from its sculptured early dashes of the ID to when they went to fitting the more conventional 3 round Jaeger dials...("thats not a real Citroen")

Anyway its all just perspective

and I dont imagine that there will be a flood of BX appreciation thread posts but I'm putting it here for future purposes if you will...

I'm trying to help a friend with an emotionally disturbed sensodrive in his plurial. He took off and as it did its 1st to 2nd change, bad noised came from the gearbox, and it failed to proceed. he turned it off, and now it won't start. as i have a xsara, i must know lots about citroens, so he asked me for help. (he knows zero about cars). I googled and found heaps about resetting these beasts, and have followed the couple of slightly different proceedures, basically disconnect battery for 2 minutes (or more) reconnect, sit in car with everthing off and closed, foot on brake, ignition on and wait for the dash selector to read "n". I hear it clunking away until it stops, but the dash still reads "auto". where to from here. said friend is not in a position for a new gearbox as suggested by the dealer he purchased the car from new. Help! :(

I have recently imported a towbar and dedicated wiring kit from the UK for my C5. It has been installed by one of Melbourne's supposedly reputable mechanics. The reversing sensors do not disable when a trailer/caravan is connected as I assumed they would. I complained and was poorly treated but took it back to be fixed. Unsatisfactorily as it turns out.

I have my own diagbox and am a trained electronics tech so if someone could step me through the procedure for enabling the electronics I purchased it would be much appreciated.:)

AND NO! I will not be returning to said mechanics as they have appear to have no idea how to service a modern vehicle.

I only hope that the suspension side of things has been done more satisfactorily. Any tips here, too, would be well regarded. :adrink:

Today I thought I'd shuffle some cars and get the ID 19 out for a spin.

I turn the key and hit the starter button. Sometimes it takes 2 to 4 presses to get it to start cranking if I haven't taken it out for a while and this morning was no exception. On the 3rd attempt, the starter motor kept on whining and whining. I turned off the car with the key and it kept going. As I scrambled to pop the bonnet to undo the negative terminal of the battery, a bit of smoke had started coming out the starter. Starter has now come to a stop.

So I waited a couple of minutes and reconnected the battery. No starter noise. I got back in the car and tried starting it again. All good. The car starts on the 1st attempt and 1:30 later, Harriet rises up without a hitch.

Knowing well I was going to restart it at some point during my journey for the day, I turn off the car to give it another go and she booted up fine at the press of the button and I could hear the starter whirring among the roar of the long-stroke. I turn it off and the motor turns off but the starter's still kicking and I rush to the negative terminal and disconnect the battery.

So where to from here?
