The mental image of a WRX going it's hardest just to find a little Renault Kangoo that looks standard apart from being lowered with a nice set of Clio Cup wheels firmly up it's back side has a certain appeal to my distorted sick mind
Hmmmm ...... I think too much :nownow:

Rego: ALG37W Has 300000 odd on the clock, the reality is closer to 250000 as I replaced the speedo a few years ago. Runs well, light easy clutch and gearchange, no shakes etc in the steering. This would be a good car for someone who is looking for a BX to keep rather than drive into the ground as most of the really bad issues like plastics falling apart and fading paint are not issues, and being one of the last, including a metal bonnet, makes it a little unique.

What's good:

In the last 18 months, new rear arm bearings, new clutch, rebuilt gearbox, new front rotors, injectors cleaned etc

Windscreen replaced 2 years ago.

Paint is good, some damage to drivers door that was there when I bought the car, looks like a door lock was forced.

Good tyres (50%). Rego until December.

Very good interior, no sun damage at all on the dash, not even the bit near the windscreen.

Air con is very cold, heater tap works and core is not leaking.

Recently regassed spheres all round.

What's not so good:

Needs some TLC with the hydraulics, has a leak somewhere around the tank. Tick time is around 8-10 seconds, this increases to maybe 15 seconds if the brake is held on firm, perhaps the brake valve is leaking to the return pipe.

I'll post some pics over the weekend, in the meantime PM if any interest.

Hey guys would this be a straight forward swap ie just the gearbox??

Would i notice a big differance ie closer ratios and faster acceleration?? Is it really worth the hassle??

I just feel my gti could be faster and i can get a cheap box too :).

Hi all,

All was going smoothly if not very slowly on the clutch replacement on my Valver. Thanks to all that have offered tips and advice so far.:wink2:

Well it was a struggle to remove the gearbox and my unfamiliarity with the BX and hydraulics meant that it all took a while.:( The hydraulics alone were about 3/4 of the time spent.

Anyway I dropped off my flywheel to get machined only to get a call telling me that they'd rather not do it as it has a crack. The crack is not immediately obvious, just a 15mm long crack in the friction surface.

Have a mate who is an aircraft non destructive technician who will ultrasound it to see how deep the crack is.

Not holding out much hope. Anyone have a spare flywheel lying around?

Seeing as though it looks like I'll be doing a clutch change on the Mi16 sometime soon, I might as well get in a do a few other things too. So while the engine is out I'll redo the timing belt, tensioners, and water pump, as well as the cam seals.

I'll also redo the strut tops with BakerBM rubbers as well as look at the rest of the bushes to see how they look. I'll check out the drive shafts and get them reconditioned if they need them - not to mention replacement of gearbox seals too. I also have a leaky rocker cover gasket that I will replace.

I think that's really about it. Can anyone suggest anything else that would be a good idea to do while I've got the engine out and the gearbox separated? You know those b@stard of jobs that are so much difficult with the engine in the car - preventative as well as remedial.

Any advice on removing the engine would be appreciated. I understand the preferred way is to drop it out the bottom - subframe and all. I will probably do it that way too - it saves disconnecting the PS pump for one thing. Is it safe to assume that I can leave the shafts and hubs connected to the box and just pull the hub off the bottom of the strut, or is there something in the way that means that won't work? Having only ever lifted engines out, this is new territory for me.

Thanks

Matt

Drove the new DS3 at Barbagallo’s this morning and I have to say I am impressed. Looks great in the flesh and seems to be a “quality mo’a” Got to have a decent drive and its handling brings back memories of the 205. Great steering & seating positon. A DS3 Racing version may even be enough to tempt me away from the RS250 even. Interior quality and style is unlike any other Citroen and despite the smallish looks I thought the rear seats were quite spacious for a little hatch. They are definitely onto a winner here & hopefully they sell bucket loads of these things.

Saw the new C3 also which looks like a huge jump in quality and presence over the current model.

Lets hope this is the start of great things to come from Citroen Australia.
