Adrian, if you have a good torch, have a look at the bracket, fixed to the bell housing under the water pump, where it joins the clutch cable, the hook on the end of the bracket where the cable connects can get stretched out of shape, the bracket could need replacing. Or you could have a leak from the H Pump that is letting oil get onto the clutch plate through the bell housing. Or perhaps the cable is on it's last legs, again, something you'll be able to see if you shine a torch down onto the bell housing where the cable joins the bracket. I think I have a spare cable if you need it, but i don't have a bracket unfortunately.

check the water pump too.... you could have coolant leaking down onto the clutch You could also be getting weapage from the primary gearbox shaft seal, or rear main.... you don't want to go there though

What condition are the engine mounts in? It could be slumped rubbers allow the motor/transmission to jump about.

    Hi Shane / IE23,
I have some clutch problems, shudder causing kangaroo hops, grating gears, in my new 66 (65?) ID19. And guess what (Shane you spotted it), the water pump is leaking at the shaft and dripping directly onto the open area where the clutch lever operates. May not be causing the gears crunch, but it is not going to help.

IE23, did you get to the bottom of your problem and eliminate it?

    Cheers Leconte

Leconte, the shudder has minimised to the point that it doesn't bother me since I fixed the fuel supply issue, which was a blocked fuel filter. It maybe pure coincidence but once the fuel supply was fully up to performance the shudder almost disappeared.
