    Default C5 HDI engine oil

What's the consensus on a suitable local oil for a 2007 hdi auto with particulate filter as a replacement for the Total one?
    Any recommendation?

You probably want to pick a 5W30. It needs to be low SAPS (low metallic ash when burnt) so look for an ACEA rating of C2 I think it is. PSA has it's own oil standard and Total has products meeting that, which is why it's preferred. If the car didn't have a particle filter, you could use many different oils, but you are best to pick one that will leave less metallic ash in the particle filter when it's burnt. It doesn't burn off during the regeneration process and can also clog up the EGR valve. There won't be an immediate problem, so you might be able to get away with the incorrect oil for quite a long time.

Im just biting the bullet on the engine oil and going the elf/total solution. As David said there are some special features of the exhaust. What David didn't say however is that this car also runs a Catalytic Converter (CAT) next to the FAP. CATs can easily be destroyed by oil. Blow a head gasket on any car and the CAT will soon be destroyed. For this reason I would go with the manufacturer's recommendation.
A search on the net should give you a local supplier.

BTW I must confess to be a novice with the (new to me) 2.2hdi. I am loving the car to bits and I'm mightily impressed with the engine and dynamics atm, which puts my post in perspective,
Thanks to Haakon, I will not be going genuine on the auto-trans when I refill the box. But more research to be done on that!

    Default oil

    Thanks Tony,

Fortunately I have sussed a supplier in Dandenong, so all is good for me. My (first time) mechanic is a Pug specialist and all seems good so far.
