Default My ID 19 near completion

    Hi,
After months of using the Aussiefrogs forums for research on my restoration project Richo convinced me to join and share what I have done so far.
I have been restoring my 1961 Citroen id19 for the last 4 years after obtaining it in a state of neglect. It hadnít been registered since 1983. I stripped the car back to the frame and the panels to bare metal, fixed the panel work and re-sprayed the entire car inside and out. I have cleaned and polished every piece of chrome work and re-trimmed the interior.
I have finally managed to get the car registered and it is now near complete. I still need to find some aluminum centre caps a rear floor mat and the side park lights so if anyone knows of any in existence could you please contact me.
I have added some before during and after photos for you to have a look at.

Fantastic effort. Love what you've done colour etc. Was there much rust to deal with? What issues did you have with mechanicals/suspension etc.? Those door trims look great - source?

    More photos please!

The ID's look brilliant in black. What sort of hubcaps should it have? It's the one thing I've never come across is good ID19 hubcaps. I have 3 sorts here, rusted flaking metal ones, 2 battered alloy "clip on" type, and 4 battered alloy with center bolt and retaining springs that clip into holes in the wheel. None of which are usable in there current condition.

What a lovely job. We are in the UK but have 2 small centre hubcaps and a parking light surplus to requirements. Free to a good home if someone pays the postage. We also have a set of door cards for an early ID as well free to a good home.

Welcome - at last! I've only been nagging your father for about 2 years that you should join AF and tell us more about the car and its progress. I did find pics of this car from CitIn 2000 at Jindabyne prior to us moving house and I will try to locate them again.

I hear you have also been getting assistance from a nearby local too.

    Hi helmut
Are the centre hubcaps alloy or steel, how much would the postage cost for them and the lights.

Hello, It looks amazing! I have exactly same model same year ID 19 but mechanically not perfect. It is too almost ready to assemble.

Did you spray it yourself or by pros? If so do you take pane by panel or whole car?

Mine paint job is still good some corner rust only so I can drive around like that for another 10 years.

    Congratulations!

I have four GS ones with the clips in excellent condition. I do not know if these fit! I suspect that they might be a little shallow to clear the central fixing boss!

The small 400mm wheel hubcaps lock into 3 "lugs" in the center of of the wheel, or two holes drilled into the wheels (at least the 3types I have here). GS hubcaps if full wheel clip into the 15" wheel. If there small hubcaps, they screw into a "cage" in the wheel center like CX wheels ( ). The 400mm wheels obviously have the center wheel bolt at this point

I'll try to get some piccies of the hubcaps and the way they attach. Maybe there's some members out there with a pile of them, but have no idea what car they actually fit!

    Anyway, back on topic.

These are the caps I was talking about:

These ones are actually pretty good. They look bad, but should polish up nicely. If they fit your car (you'll need another two). Your welcome to have them.

    They need this wheel.

These are the ones I think my car should have. I'll probably sandblast and paint them for the time being.

These are an alumium version of above. As you can see they have been bent. I imagine there very soft. If you car should have these, you are welcome to have them. You may be able to straighten them, I haven't tried.

The above two versions just clip on, quite solidly it seems.

They require the wheel with these pegs on it.

    seeya,
    Shane L.

These hub caps have a single spring bar across the centre that extends just past the circumference. These clip into two holes that are drilled in the centre section of the rim. There is no cage. Does the ID19 wheel have the two holes for the spring bar to fit into?
I'll bring some up next time I visit and we can try them!!!!!
Oops I should have looked back at your Piccies. I think these caps may just fir the Black wheel, but definitely not the cream wheel with the three lugs. The three peg wheel is an early type perhaps?

Most seem to have the pegs, between the 3 cars here I'd have 3 wheels with holes in the wheels, 1 with no pegs and no holes ( Normale wheel ?? ) and the rest have pegs. Which ones belong to which cars (or any of the cars here) given wheels and tyres would have been swapped around for the last 50years ... I don't know.

You could always drill the two holes in any wheel. Fitting the pegs would be more difficult if required.

I use the sprung aluminium ones as all the stud attached ones I used years ago always fell off. I simply knocked the lugs off the wheels and drilled holes.

That's a fourth type of hubcap, plated metal with the spring backing.
