Default Now my D has got a proper exhaust system!!

    Hi everyone

This past weekend I did a trip to friends of mine, it was a nice 850km round trip, with my DS. I gave my friend a copy of the link to the DS exhaust system writeup on Tony Jackson's site. So he took it to an exceptionally good custom manufacturing exhaust firm, and made a stainless steel silencer out of that writeup with the correct dimensions etc.

    The result??

We did away with the twin tailpipe exhaust clamp which won't fit anyway, because the exhaust pipes are now 38mm diameter instead of the orinigal 32mm pipes. The first thing I noticed was that I can now hear the howling sound of the radiator fan... for the first time!!!

I'm very happy with this system, and for $415 not very expensive either!

    What do you guys think?

    Cheers
    Corne

Looks good, but my only criticism would be that there is nowhere near enough flex pipe at the engine pipe to exhaust connection.

I agree but said nothing... yet.

I gave the design/writeup to my friend over 2 years ago, so in the meantime they fitted their silencers with the same flex and used their cars since without any problems with cracks or shearing of the exhaust system

I will keep an eye on it and replace it if any negative effects are noticed, but for now I am enjoying the car

I have had a stainless flexy pipe fitted to the CX to replace the ball and socket system and the flex is the same size as that. My exhaust guy has fitted plenty although that was the first one he did for a CX

I will try this one and just see what happens.

These days with orinigal parts getting scarcer and the quality not always that good you have to look for alternatives, so if it works it works, if it doesn't it doesn't

All very neat s/s welds! The box and fasteners look pretty sturdy for the job. With the increased bore, it should also lessen any movements/vibrations. Looks you've got yourself a bargain here!

Sound floorplan too; must be all that dry Karoo air...

    Cheers,

The floorpan got some good beating in it's time!! Lots of gravel roads, and brandy marks In the future I am going to replace the whole floorboard. The 20+ years this car stood outside under a tree definitely didn't help at all!!

Now that the car is truely quiet, I am hearing all sorts of squeaks and rettles, looks like I will have to do some rattle hunting!!

    Cheers

You fix one problem you find six. So you should leave well enough alone.
