    Default CX 25 turbo (series 2) ... won't start

    hi all,

Have just hopped into the CX for the drive home from work...

Went to start the car, it fired up briefly (1 - 2 seconds) then died. Wouldn't fire again for a few minutes, then would do the same thing ... i.e. start very briefly, then die.

It has fuel in the tank, the battery is good (hence it firing up albeit briefly).

It ran perfectly on the way into work this morning, so no signs anything was amiss.

Any ideas where to start looking (apart from for a tow company with a flat bed!)

    cheers Simon

big blue ... the tachometric relay. You are powering the pump with the start circuit, but as soon as you release the key the pump drops out.

check the connetors etc... to big blue. If it's starts, idles but doesn't run if you touch the throttle... check the intake side, the intake hose has likely popped off the turbo.

    hi Shane

Just got it to start, and it would run under throttle.

Turned it off, but wont restart (yet, anyway)

I will check the connections to the 'big blue'.

The intake hose to the turbo seems attached OK.

... well, removed the connections to the blue relay, reconnected, and the car started and ran fine and got me home.

It restarted again at home, so looks OK for the time being.

Should I consider replacing the tachometric relay (I remember seeing some threads on replacing this part) or should I just wait and see?

    cheers Simon

Nah, don't replace it... Replacing the connector plug would be a better option. I'd just clean them both the best you can. Also do those big connector blocks under the spare wheel cover.

Buy some proper connector cleaner/lubricant spray e.g. from RS or Farnell (now called Element 14) and clean up the connectors.

If you do need to replace the tachometric relay, there is a Hella equivalent available. Search for UFO as the thread poster and Hella. That should find it.

BTW this relay is black not blue, and about half the price. Or knock one off out of a Pug 205 IIRC...
