    Default turbo

    Hi guys, anybody know where I can get my mitts on a turbo for a 2007 C4 1.6L TD ???
    ( within reasonable distance of Central Vic)

    Has it broken or is it simply the vacuum pipe that's falen off and you now have no boost???

    The obvious sources are Pug and Citroen dealers and specialist wreckers like BM Spares. The dealers will want $3K+ I think and the wreckers will want a good portion of that. The same turbo, Garrett GT1544V from memory is used on some Fords too and sold under various OEM codes and part numbers. Look on eBay as there are overseas suppliers of complete turbochargers and just the guts. However, there are variations and you need to refer to the reference number engraved on the turbo ID plate. You will also need to clean out or replace the turbo supply, the inline sintered filter (extremely important), the drain and various seals.

    Why did it fail??? Oil changes missed? This is actually very important to work out because a new turbo may fail within a few thousand km if the original failure was due to lack of lubrication / carbonised oil. If it's a straight broken shaft, then it's a lot simpler. If the oil was not changed, then the engine is likely to be full of carbon and in extreme cases where a lot of bearing/piston scoring has resulted, the least expensive route can be to replace the engine and turbo. If the oil was the problem, then you will have quite a lot of work to do to fix the problem as you will need to remove the sump, oil cooler, brake vacuum pump and so on. Even so, you can't get to all the oil galleries and running the car without the turbo fitted (it will be slow!) for a few thousand km and changing the oil and filter every thousand may be the only way to be really sure you've removed the lumps of carbon.

    Yes, it probably does seem that way! However, it's not always as simple as just bolting in another turbo and I reckon I'd be rather put out if I had to repeat the job after a few thousand km.

    Regardless, the 1.6 HDi is an excellent engine, but doesn't respond well to ongoing neglect. It's really something to keep in mind with this and other turbo diesels as they change hands as used cars. Buying a car with an incomplete service history can be something of a gamble.

    Hi guys, s/hand turbo fitted & found reason for failure, no lubrication.
    Started engine, no oil from supply pipe.
    Took pipe off cyl block & found blocked gauze filter, removed same= full flow.
    Suppose thats not too bad after 158 Ks.

    If it was blocked by crusty carbon deposits, then there will probably be more. Did you also change the oil and filter? It sounds like it's needed. It also means the combination of oil being used and the frequency of the changes should be reviewed.
