    Default GS Paint Colour

I've decided to get one of my GS wagons repainted. It is currently white, but the doors and boot are stripped, so I am thinking this would be a good time to switch to a more cheerful colour.

I am tending toward orange (which would contrast beautifully against the black interior). I'm thinking http://www.citroenet.org.uk/passenge.../gs-break.html Would any one happen to have the paint code?

    Cheers,
    Andrew

Andrew, I think it's only orange through reproduction, or it's a publicity shot of a pre-production model in a colour that didn't make it to market.
The fourth wagon in that series, outside the stables, is I think Rouge de Rio AC424. The first three may be the same, as the vehicle pictured has the early seats and early rims, and an orange didn't become available until Annee Modele 1975 when the narrower seats and rectangular slotted rims came in from what I can work out. AC 329 Orange Tenere was available from September 1974 /AM1975 until it was dropped in AM1977.
The thing that makes me think this is possibly a pre-production car is the stainless rear window finisher, something I personally have never seen.
    Cheers
    Bruce

Ps I've got the details of your X2 from your original post to add to the database of Australian GS/As, but would you like to send me the details of your other GSs? Thanks in anticipation.

I miss my orange 74 wagon now.

The wagons do look way better than the sedans.

I think it's great to see some chatter about the GS - in any colour; sedan or wagon.

There was an orange one for sale in NZ. It was mandarine - AC 437
Can't find that image but here it is on a CX.

    Hi All,

It makes sense if it is not a production colour from that year as suggested by Bruce. Definitely more red than Mandarine. I've found some photos of a '78 X3 in "Orange Ibiza" AC 332 see http://www.rotativementvotre.org/gs-.../jcs/ac332.jpg Looks like a pretty close match...

Chris, got one in close to Delta Blue - see http://www.flickr.com/photos/frontdr...7623787907484/ and from the previous owner http://www.aussiefrogs.com/forum/att...4&d=1134170516 I have a light blue 1015 wagon looking for a loving home + resto if you are interested.

Bruce- Will remember to get the camera out when I am home next

Shane, I did have a matt black GS once- looked terrible - and I loved it I am almost decided on black for the prestige.... when I have time.

    Cheers,
    Andrew

I could be wrong, but that AC332 to me looks more like AC435 rouge geranium, though they are only shades apart http://www.citroworld.com/Files/File...n1965-1984.pdf

According to Gazoline No.39 Citroen GS, AC332 was not offered on the GS, but AC435 was offered on the X3.

But I think I would like a tan or a Tabac interior, though.

I had a Renault R5 in nearly the same color. Bright and cheerful- there were times I was tempted to paint "Sunkist" on the side!

Orange with the Tabac interior - would have to be "The Jaffa"

    Just found this page http://www.gs-gsa.org/couleurs.php

Off to the paint shop to buy a rattle can of AC332 - will spray it on a spare panel and see how it looks.

Looks ahh...... bright but I'm sure that has something to do with the Tasmanian light.
In my opinion the GS will carry that colour combination beautifully.

(So will the X2 be also getting the treatment - the orange would stand out well with the black window frames and bumpers?)

It was a very grey and clouded day, so the orange appeared even brighter than it is!

At this stage X2 is planned to return to original metalic green, but wouldn't a whole fleet of orange GSes look great?!?

Will start restoration thread once it gets underway. I've got a mate doing the painting so I can chip away at the mechanicals and interior in the few hours I get free at the moment.

You have made a great colour choice for a GS.

It would certainly be better than the boring beige that a lot of GS's seem to have!
