    Default AL4 gearbox

    Hi all

I was just wondering if anybody has had any experience with a company in China that manufactures AL4 gearboxes called "Sanboo International" they have given me a price of $1400.00 + delivery but they only have a 12 month 30000 warranty? is there an alternative supplier?

    Bon jour

    Default Al4

Not my favorite gearbox at all, but that does sound like a pretty good quote.

I thought reconditioning costs were close to the four grand mark here.

I had a brand new AL4 gearbox fitted under warranty on my used C5 copy of invoice showed $5800. So seems relatively cheap at $1400 + shipping + fitting. Do you know if you need to pay import duty.

My wallet says don't touch it but my mind says give it a go and tell us how you went.

Just be aware of overseas companies dumping products to countries where its to hard and expensive to claim warranty.

How does the cost include fitting if they are overseas?

Is that with or without a core charge? Is an exchange expected?

It will carry duty and GST if you import it. How much is freight and clearance etc.? I think it will be significant as a one off item.

I would be looking for their local rep as that would eliminate many of the problems and give you more chance of comeback. They would not be the only Chinese gearbox rebuilder, so there may be other sources.

A&B in Melbourne would be your benchmark for cost and quality.

I heard that Peter Boyd from Mapleton was getting an AL4 rebuilt locally using parts sourced from China. Would be interesting to hear how successful that exercise was. We have one that was rebuilt by A&B that will not lock up the torque converter properly.

    Cheers,

Remember they produce the C4 in China - could be a parts supplier for the factory?

The 408 1.6 auto has a gearbox which they say is made specifically for chinese market. I think they called it AL8. Maybe it's the same supplier.
