Default My car makes a noise

    Hi All

Hope the new year is going well.
I finally have a car back on the road, after pulling out the gearbox and doing the clutch and other things like that.
The only problem is that I now have a rattling noise (those damn rattles) coming from my steering regional.
When I first put it together, the noise was quite bad, so I made sure that all my ball joints, brake caliper bolts and suspension struts were all done to torque...oopps I hadn't realised how tight my brake caliper was supposed to be.

That improved the noise significantly, now it just comes when the car is hot ie been driving hard for 40+ mins.

Does anyone have any thoughts, i'm now driving a cream BX19 TRI.

    Thanks

If you have checked your steering rack and tie rod ball joints, and the bottom of the strut ball joint, and they are OK, then it is most likely to be the drop links connecting the anti-roll bar to the front suspension. These seem to make more noise when first moved after a period of stasis and then get less noisy after some action. Best to regrease them before they are so worn that they need replacing. The ones on my 19TZI are in a similar state.

    Cheers,

    Ken W

You have a BX - Yes?
Check that there is some "anti knock" material on the gear linkages that pass near the body on their way to the gearbox. I had a knock that took a long time to locate after a clutch change. Sounded like from the steering and I changed the rack, drop links and tightened lots of bits; then found that the material on the gear lingage had moved and was letting the linkage knock metal to metal when going over bumps or driven in a "spirited" manner.
Worth a check as it will cost nothing to look .

    Cheers
    Michael

I'm sure their are those out there who believe that the right ear rings are "hot" all the time. The reason I'm sure of this is the fashion industries' definition of "Hot" and "Cool"

It isn't just "cool" to drive a "hot" car...

    Bruce.
