Default An Early Christmas Present to Myself

It had to happen eventually. After wanting one since I was a teenager, and I'll be sixty next year, I have finally got myself a 1974 DS 23 Pallas.

It's a carby model but Jason reckons it was a BVH before being converted to five speed manual.

There must have been a respray because the paint code on the disc is AC083 - Beige Vanneau - but the colour is now a light green. I can't quite determine what paint code it now is and would be obliged if anyone could enlighten me.

I've had the car now for a couple of weeks, just driving at weekends, and I'm delighted with it.

Compared to my old CX Turbo it is not as smooth or as frisky but it is a joy to drive and a good companion to my BX daily driver.

No air con fitted so I hope this summer is not too hot and cool enough to get some enjoyable motoring done.

Well done. I have owned Dees for nearly 20 years now, but lately I haven't been driving them much. I think it is time to get back into them. You are right: they are an old design and do not perform as well as modern cars. But I think they have something special, possessed by no other car, that makes driving fun.

I always thought the early type steering wheels looked better than the later type. I like the way the steering wheel has been painted to be a similar black colour to the later type that is correct for the car. There doesn't seem to be any tape wrapping around it, though. I can't see from the photos what has replaced it.

Very nice .... Obviously nothing at all like a CX turbo to drive and own ................... That's why you need one of each Nothing replaces a "D" or "CX" .................... other than another "D" or "CX" These are proper cars, and once you own one, nothing else will suffice

I was up at Jason's last week when you popped in Doug. You have a great looking car. Congratulations.

Don't listen to Mort . Beige! Really? Mine was originally beige too. Glad it's not. I wonder how many 74 DS Pallas came in that colour?

    Enjoy.

    Roger,

I also prefer the earlier steering wheel. There is no tape wrapping on my wheel - it is a leather finish. My concern is that it may be vulnerable to palm sweat so taping it might be a better option.

    Nah.....beige is not for me.

I still don't know quite what the respray colour is. I have looked at various websites and my 'green' doesn't seem to appear anywhere.

Maybe it's not a true Citroen colour??

Looks great, love the colour, suits the car I certainly wouldn't be rushing to change it back to original.

    Congratulations on fulfilling a dream

    Enjoy

Hi Doug. If you want to know the range of colours for the DS cars ,then you should go to the Le nuancier DS website, perhaps someone on this forum can give you the website details. I'ts very useful information for anyone wishing to know and restore their cars to the original DS colour. Cheers Joe

    Hi Joe,

Thanks for the tip. I think the colour might be Vert Argente ( AC 527). Looks close to me.

The beige range of colours was very popular for the time. It helped so many colour-wheel challenged people to set off their flaired brown cords and orange knitted tank-tops of the early 70's.....

Beige?! did I say beige, I meant BLACK.

Once she's been on a day trip somewhere and discovered true travelling comfort, she'll have forgotten all about it.....

Just make sure the weather is cooler, rather than warmer.....and you choose a road she hates because its revoltingly uncomfortable to ride on...

My other half wasn't exactly thrilled about it when I bought June....now that he's sat in her and about to get his license to drive by getting some practice in her, he's coming around.

    Perth, here we come!
