The leather would feel much nicer than the gooey molten plastic that most CX steering wheels turn into.

I imagine it would still melt/disintegrate beneath the leather if the car was left in the weather out here They just can't handle the heat those series I steering wheels.

Shane, thanks. Do you know why the description says so definitely that the wheel would not suit most Series 1 CXs? It looks OK to me.

FWIW, I had my wheel fitted with a custom leather grip by a local, very good auto-upholsterer 5 years ago (gooey plastic etc etc) and it has been perfect. I do keep it out of the sun mind you.

    Cheers

I have an OK wheel on the Wagon but thought I better cover it before starts to go off so I bought a cheapie rubber and cloth cover from Supercheap a few years ago.

I have just taken it off after a mould attack (thanks weather) to wash it and the wheel underneath is looking really good.

    Cheers,

    Ken W

That steering wheel is from a Series I GTi Turbo, I'm pretty sure they must be leather bound from the factory. The series 1 dash should be identical, it's only the analogue instrument part that differs.

Thanks Shane. We'd better get it here, into a nice dry climate!

100% correct - all Series 1 GTi Turbo's came with a leather bound steering wheel and IMO, they are the best CX steering wheel.
