    Default Ds , dv dx??

    Hi there

Been looking at parts suppliers. When they refer to the DV or DX engine what does that mean. My 1970 D SPecial would be what?

    Thanks

It's the engine type .... take a look at your block. It should be cast into it. eg; DX5 == DS23 ie DY == long stroke etc...

The plate with the engine number and type is below the water pump and the belt driven high pressure pump (if you have one) and near the clutch cable (on a manual car!).

The one in the attached photo is a DX, so an early DS21 motor.

All the 5 main blocks are essentially the same.

Yours should be a DV. I think they went to DV2 in 1972.
At this point in time (2011), the block designation might not mean much. Many 1950 blocks have been fitted with 2175 liners and heads so service history and records could become very important forensic tools on many cars.

    1950 blocks? Made in 1950? :-) Don't you mean 1985cc?

Thanks for that.. the reason I ask is I need some new rubber tubes for the crank case breather.. the one that runs off the air cleaner and meets at a T pipe.. seen one for DX and DV so i was wondering if it made a difference.

Difference? Not much. Its the engine designation and HP delivered to the gearbox.
Most of the pipes are the same from engine to engine in the last models especially for the breather tubes, etc.
