    Default 2004 C3 Pluriel

Hi guys, First post so here goes. Looking at purchasing a 2004 C3 Pluriel with the engine not running. Im thinking it would most likely be a timing belt which would require at least a cylinder head reco. Is there any other major problems that this model is known for developing? Im looking for a nice chep car to run to and from work with that isnt a boring old pulasr or yaris or barina. something different and fun. Any amounts of info would be greatly appreciated.

Is that the one for sale on eBay? If it is, get other quotes for a new engine, don't rely on the sellers estimate. He also states that the roof is not working, "needs some sort of plastic thing". I was looking at one on the Sunshine Coast with a similar roof problem. The Citroen Mechanics on the Gold Coast, whom I was taking my C5 and C4 to at the time, suggested that the 'plastic thing' might require the whole roof being changed at a cost between $3500 and $4000.

I would suggest getting a local citroen specialist to have a good look at the car. 16500 Kms and not have a timing belt change would also suggest it has not been well looked after and serviced correctly, so there might be a few other 'problems' with it.

Hi BallinaOB, Thanks for your reply. It is the car from Ebay. If the "plastic thingy" is worth $3500 than that is a concern. i will definately need to find a Citroen guy to inspect this for me first.
I would have thought that a cambelt replacement recommended by the manufacturer would have been around 120,000-140,000 kms, so you raise another good point.
Looks like more homework is needed....

If the Pluriel is like the std C3 the cam belt needs changing at every 80000km. Those roof costs are very concerning.

Engine: It is essentially a C3 under the skin, but the Pluriel only came in the 1.6 Sensodrive here and never with the 1.4 engine or with regular manual or automatic gearboxes. You'd probably prefer to replace the valves, tensioner, water pump, timing belt and put it back together. The pistons and block are probably OK. Buying a used motor, you'd probably want to change the timing belt, tensioner and water pump anyway. Ask whether the belt simply snapped or whether the tensioner or water paump failed and dropped the belt.

Roof: It depends on what the 'plastic thingy' is. There are guides for the fabric roof that can break (rare) but you can buy a kit for a few hundred. There are a lot of parts you can buy for the roof assembly, so it would be fairly extreme to have have to replace the whole roof cassette, which would break your bank.

Make sure the window regulators work as they are painfully expensive to replace, although it is possible to repair them. Since you can't drive it, you have no way of knowing whether there are any problems with the gearbox (bearing noise, shifting issues) or clutch and gear actuators.

Maintained properly, they are good solid cars. Price a good quality, low km car to work out if this car is worth your time and effort.

Or see if you can get this car for "a song"...
