Any ideas on the cost to do this?
What about freight costs? do you have a good forwarder to keep the freight cost down?

The freight to and from Europe could be outrageously expensive, to the point it may be cheaper to pay a fair core charge and forget sending your own gearbox for overhaul.

Isn't the auto essentially a BW35? It was used in so many cars of the period, a lot of locals should be able to overhaul one in their sleep.

From memory, the auto D gearbox was basically a Borg Warner unit - but with the differential attached.

Many local firms could handle the gearbox, as no doubt many still can, but setting the crown wheel / pinion mesh was generally beyond the capability of most gearbox service facilities. I have experienced a few of these with noisy differential gearing.

dsvitesse1, the shaft on the photo you posted seems rather rusty - is this gearbox indeed fully cleaned and inspected?

Sandgate Automatics in Brisbane would be able to do it in their sleep, and they're also known to do other mechanical work on Dees.

    Hello Fento,

I asume you are refurring to the first picture in the album. This is how the gearbox came out of the original wooden crate. It has been in there for more than 35 years.
Gearbox has been dismantled and cleaned as you see in the other pictures. Inputshaft has been cleaned aswell . Only some surface rust, no pitting or other serious damage.
I can make another picture from the inputshaft itself, close up.

If the BW repair doesn't work out locally, I'll be here for a while with all parts.

Sandgate Automatics in Brisbane has done quite a few over the years including mine not long ago. Great job and nice people to boot.
Thanks also to Harry Martens, a great source of info and nice guy, shame he is so faraway.
I think DS Motors recommends Sandgate Autos when it comes to DS Borg Warner, so that speaks for itself.

Thanks for clearing up that point, Harry, it certainly looks like you have a desirable gearbox.

I hope it goes to a deserving cause,

    Regards,

    fento
