I remember the XM selling for around $93,000 NZ when it was new

I wonder how many they sold at that price....

A Sydney dealer has had two firm orders on its books for a couple of months. They will sell, although not in huge numbers perhaps. If you factor it all in, they are going to RRP for less than the XM did (in relation to inflation etc etc) and it was last sold for between 85 and 90k in Aus.

Used to see a few around (XMs, that is), especially in Wellington. More than I do in Sydney, in fact, unless I go to a club event. They sold more of a model range in NZ, too -- no ADR hoops to jump through.

Someone my parents know got an XM for $500 at auction not long ago! All it needed was a fuel pump.

How much do XM's go for here in Australia?

Havent really looked into it much but they would have to be one of my all time favourite cars!

One major difference between when they sold XM's and now is the economy. Xm's were sold in early 1990s? Economy here & in NZ was in the toilet. There is a lot more people around in both NZ & Oz who have $90k to spend on a car today.Plus i think more people have the taste to buy a big French car judging by the number of frenchies on the road these days. I hope they sell more C6s than Xm's. If they devalue like all new cars I should be able to afford one in 7-8 years time when my Xantia needs replacing.

Not much to choose from, Stalled, so demand is generally higher for the XM compared to its contemporaries or other Cits. Less than 150 in the country is the figure that's often quoted.

Don't know about the NSW market, but a very nice 1998 low km model sold at a dealer in Melbourne recently within a week of being advertised - asking price was around $20K. There's a 1998 around that price at another Melbourne dealer that hasn't moved for a while (Cattledog looked at it), and Series 1s (1989-1993 or thereabouts) are often advertised in $10K-$15K range. There are some tatty looking examples occasionally sighted on the road (XM001 in Vic is a filthy black Series 1 that looks very tired), so you'll find cheaper buying (with the accompanying expense of getting them back into decent condition, if that's your thing).

They are a very enjoyable vehicle to drive and own.

    Cheers,

    Greg
