Gee's look at the shut lines on that car ... It's very straight & rust free. and the door trims look good too.

I'm not sure how to tell if it's a 5spd conversion, possibly check for the C-matic wiring being there (ie: the electrovalve relay & wiring).

You have one forgiving wife Neil. If I lined 'em up out the front like that, SWBO would be extremelly perterbed to to say the least

There is no indication that it was a Cmatic, no badging on the rear it just says cx pallas. I think it was 5spd from original. The damn buzzer is still going gangbusters and it has plenty of LHM - brakes good, steering good suspension goes up and down. Low beam light stays on on dash as well as the three grouped, handbrake, stop brake failure, and oil warning. dont really have time to fiddle too much right now, I have been painting the house helps keep the head above the $hit level.

    Hi Neil,

the buzzer... Are the level sender wires attached on the reseviour or hanging down the sides .... touching earth ....

Some with the hydraulic pressure sensor light ... Is it's wire plugged on or hanging loose ... touching an earth. It's always the simple things. I wouldn't be spending time pulling the dash apart (unless you have only a buzzer on constantly and no warning lights to speak of).

What a great site to see so many CX in 1 yard at once. Love the pics. Good luck getting the car running properly.

He's using my theory ... that being " enough cars parked on grass negates any need to upkeep or cut grass" ... Yeah, SWMBO doesn't agree

    Congrats cruiserman, looks pretty good.

Must be a sister ship to my car which looks identical except for the paint colour. There was a batch of cars imported in 1981 - some of which were 5 speeds.

ORGA number on my car is 1646 = 19 May 1981. (check the ORGA number here) The compliance plate is dated 12.81. My car is also flat wheel arch but wide track front suspension, yours will probably be the same.

As for the warning buzzer ....
    a) With the low beam light staying on might suggest an earthing problem in the instrument panel wiring
    b) If it has plenty of LHM check that the low LHM level warning switch is not stuck - it still works in my car and it does set the alarms buzzing. Disconnecting at the reservoir should disable this one.
    c) Check the oil pressure sender and its associated wiring in the engine bay. Easy to write, much harder to do. The oil pressure senders do fail regularly.
    d) There is also an LHM pressure switch on the priority valve - located low down and to the left between the steering rack and the firewall. Never heard of one of these failing before though.

We have been getting plenty of those overnight storms this year. The grass grows at a prodigous rate and needs frequent mowing. I'd rather be painting ..... or even fixing old Cit's

Note sure of the original owners name Al the previous owner was Max Skeates - fairly well known via the Citroen Association of Canberra, several copies of Spheres and Gears were also included with the car. The car was originally a Maxim Motors car with rego 783 OIY if that helps.

    Hi Cruiseman,

no-one has mentioned yet that you appear to have the only decent CX steering wheel in Australia there .... I strongly suggest you keep the sun off it or it'll look like every other steering wheel in record time. I used to have a really good one in my car. I parked it at the beach oneday and chucked a towel over it to keep the sun off... When I got back the towel was then a part of the steering wheel (as it'd melted in the heat). The steering wheel was buggered from that day forward.

Reason I asked was that there a guy called Rob(?) Baker who was advertising a similar car a few years back that used to belong to his father and I believe he may have worked at Dept of Defence in Canberra at one stage, but by the sounds of the history, it's not the same car.

Hi Neil, it looks like you have a private frog infestation at your place. Are you collecting one of each available colour?
I like the white ones, I always wanted a white one.
I was even given a white one, but the damn council took it away before I had a chance to even grab it.
The Bast#@*s , and it had a very good paint job too.
    Not to worry.
You are obviously not going to register them all.
I like Shane's idea that the owners should be registered, so you could drive any car, as long as it's roadworthy, and be covered for insurance in whatever car you drive on a particular day.
    Cheers...George. 1/8th
P.S.....I'm very happy with the disc you sent me....thanks...

All those cars... how do you keep SWMBO's mute button operated?

BTW the rear muffler off your wreck fitted perfectly.

Well done Neil. What a fantastic freebie!
The panels look like a very good fit, especially the doors. Some minor TLC and it will look very nice, Is it quite sound mechanically? Perhaps you could disable the hydraulic alarm if only to retain your sanity until the problem is found, at least you still have the visual clue of the big red light.
I put up with the hydraulic alarm for about two weeks as it's gotta be one of the most annoying sounds .... and then I disconnected it which was easy to do as the instrument dash cover isn't attached firmly and just lifts off.
The light has only come on when the hydraulic fluid was really low.

Ah well, I did see a white CX with ACT plates - there can't be THAT many around these days. Anyway, the driver looked too grey haired - it was only an off chance it was you.
