Fault codes for Bosch MonoMotronic MA3.0

Hey guys - im having a bit of trouble with my AX, as i will be driving along, and occasionally it will cut out, and be quite hard to start again. when this happens, i get a check engine light. I was just wondering if anyone had a list of the fault codes for the injection computer (Monomotronic MA3.0) and the procedure to extract them

    Cheers

If it ain't broke, use a 12" shifter.....that usually does the trick!!

Thanks alan, but that ecu is pretty different to mine - i may have to go down to euroserve and get them to hook it up to their test - anyone got any idea how much this should cost?

    Hi AxGT,

I had a look in my Bosch Fuel Injection and Engine Management manual and it seems that with the symptoms you described it could be one of five things. Probably best in the long run that you do connect it to a diagnostic machine. One thing; there are plenty of independent places that have the Bosch diagnostic analyser (even non-French car places) so shop around - you might find one that will do it for nothing. Look for the Bosch logo...

Cheers Stuey, any chance on some leads
Another thing ive noticed is that it only happens when the engine is still cool
like about 70 degrees ( about half way on the gauge) and below
any higher than that and it runs fine - thinking it could be a temperature sensor ?

    Ax,

The manual doesn't specifically cover Monotronic, but states that the principles in the manual apply to it.

Most of the troubleshooting guide says things like 'faulty air sensor' and 'insufficient fuel pressure' for cutting out and hard cold starting, which is useless really. BUT, the fact that it's only happening cold narrows it down a bit, as your problem occurs in the warm up phase when the system is meant to be injecting more fuel.

The only thing that's really easy to test is the temperature sensor.

Assuming yours is the electronic injector type, you can test the temperature sensor by removing it and immersing it in heated water. At 20C it should have a resistance of 2000-3000 ohms and at 80C it should be 250-400 ohms.

If you've got a separate injector for cold starting, it could be this too - check the connections and the injector for cleanliness.

Sorry I couldn't be more specific.
