    Default Reliable mechanics for Citroens?

After a not-so-pleasant experience yesterday in Newcastle (dealer) when the 'tiddler' (C3) went in for its service, we were wondering if anyone knew any good reliable mechanics in the Central Coast, Lake Macquarie, Newcastle, Maitland areas who know what's what with Citroens. Any suggestions more than welcome.

The service was done properly, it just took forever, and they didn't seem to care that we'd got the car there at 0830 as asked, which meant leaving home at 0730. Car wasn't ready until 1600. Not happy.

Also, anyone had a problem with a C3/C5 going out of manual mode into automatic without notice?

I don't live in NSW, so I can't help with another dealer.

However, for my last four cars (all brand new ones), I've never been offered to hang around whilst the service is done. I just drop it off in the morning and go pick it up in the afternoon.

The only exception to this was Repco who serviced my Turbo Beetle when I was thoroughly sick of VW's lies and deceptions. They took an hour and let me watch. Unless your C3 is in dire need of dealer's Proxia updates, I don't mind the idea of taking the car to a non-Froggy service place.

Do you mean when you get to the top of the rev range? I'm pretty sure most auto boxes do that these days.

Must say that in my 25 years of having all sorts of cars serviced, the general thing is to drop them off in the morning (usually early) and pick them up at 4-5 pm. I have occasionally been called at 2 or 3 to say the car is ready, and once (a 1500km Subaru service) was offered a while-you-wait oil change but declined. I suspect they like to get all the jobs in then work their way through. Bit hard to have appointments scattered through the day and I doubt that would suit many customers either.

Having said that, our last visit to a Citroen garage resulted in rotors, pads, oil, pink slip and timing belts all done between 8 and 3:30.

Thing is they hadn't started on the car when we called in at 2. Said it would be ready at 3, but it wasn't. And there's not a lot to do in Newcastle when you don't have transport.

Thanks for the tip on the Central Coast dealer. From memory it's Eurocars or something like that.

And the Sydney dealer (McCarroll's) who had quoted an exorbitant amount for the service, told us we could wait for the car.

Don 't know who has stated that the service at the Gosford Citroen dealer is pretty good but I doubt it was anyone who has used them!

I live on the Central Coast and could almost walk there but still get my cars serviced in Sydney after THREE atempts at using them.

Given your location perhaps it would be worth while simply phoning the service manager and "talking" to them.. or even the dealer principal, stating your experience and seeing what they have to say... before going somewhere else.

It would be much more convenient resolving one bad experience than travelling for three hours to get your car serviced somewhere else.

If they don't respond then try any decent local mechanic ....I could recomend these guys... having broekn down in an R19 and needing service in the area some time ago they were very obliging.. given they do Renault and Volvo I'm sure a C3 wouldn't phase them and they would not be anti Eurepean....no idea how convenient they are though...

I have to sympathize with the opening posters feelings on this dealers lack of service. I currently own a Citroen (my first) but unfortunately it will be my last unless I find a good service option with someone experienced in Cits.

I was amazed at the lack of service this dealership offers, the long waits to get your vehicle booked in, work not being completed on the day, further waiting on booking it back in. I have not found anything as poor as this on any other brand of car I have owned. If anyone does know a Citroen mechanic in Newcastle please let us know.

Is this the guy you're looking for?

I own a car that the previous 2 owners had serviced there and I do my own work and my assessment of these guys would be, work of a fair to average standard but tend to cut corners a bit. By Sydney standards he'd rate reasonably high by comparison I would say as I also own or have owned a couple of ex Sydney cars that have been servced by some of the more "name" companies, so can do a direct comparison.
I've heard both good and bad reports on his work, but that applies to most places, it's a personal thing. Overall, I'd say he should be OK.
I can sympathise about the waiting. I live well away from any dealers and when I had my business and had to rely on others to do the work, I found it a pain in the butt to be told to drop a car there at a certain time, rearrange a day to suit on the basis it'd be finished at midday but they don't start until 1pm and then finish about 5 and you have to come home and do a days work after dark. People living on 24 perches in Town with only the bloody cat to feed when they get home or living a couple of klms away are a different story to having to sit and twiddle the thumbs whilst the mechanics play around with jobs on locals cars who dropped them there on the way to work and won't be collecting until knock off time.

    Default central coast

This is where NOT to take it, West Gosford Mechanical Repairs. This guy advertises as a European Car Specialist. I picked up my citroen after some work and wondered what the vibration was, noticed the the top engine mount wasn't put back, asked him if he had test driven the car and noticed the vibration. "WHAT VIBRATION".
