Our 97 16Valve sticks at 80 degrees C when the aircon is on so the fans are operating nearly all the time. Without aircon it does float up towards 90 before the fans come on to control things.

However, it does have quite a hot spike after you turn off the engine as the rest of the heat transfers from the head into the coolant - often 10 -15 degrees. On the big ones, the fans come back on all by themselves for a while.

On very hot days on the highway with aircon on, I have seen the temp climb very gradually so I don't think there is unlimited cooling capacity in the system.

I would start to worry if it goes much above 100 degrees although 33% glycol shouldn't boil until over 115 degrees C. I prefer to run 50% glycol as its good up to 136 degrees C.

    Hope this helps.

98 Xantia - I would say my experience pretty much matches Ken's.
Ok maybe that is adding anything, but if 2 follow that pattern, maybe it is
    'Normal'.

I am sure someone (Alan S?) suggested on this forum once that a consistently lower reading (say 60-70) could indicate problems. Can't remember why though Anyone?
