    Default Heater Question

    Hi all

I've got a Xsara VTR...45K on it. Question is, has anyone come across the "stinky heater" problem in these cars? That is, on heat, the heater blower S-T-I-N-K-S...smells like coolant. The reverse applies with the AC...stinks a little bit then is OK after a while...any ideas?
I'm suspecting perhaps there's some leakage near the blower area, like some coolant hose or something.

If they are anything like the Xantia it is possible that the heater matrix itself is leaking.

    See here:
    Zantia heater leak dillema?

The only time(s) we've had a smell like coolant from the ventilation system in our 306 it was, sad to say, the heater matrix. Now 306 = Xsara more or less.

When the AC smells, it's the mouldy towel smell, not the coolant smell.

So I'd fear the worst. After the matrix has been changed, if it is leaking, make sure the coolant changes are done on time and cross your fingers.

    Good luck

    Dang...
Thanks for that...I've decided to take it to the dealer to check out, seeing as the problem occured after a recent service.
I'll keep you guys posted though
