Default New CitroŽn Concept Car - 19_19

    https://www.caradvice.com.au/755793/...19_19-concept/

Not quite sure what to make of this. I would feel like an idiot driving around in one of these today; but there are some neat ideas considering the assumed future of cars - driving themselves, much safer, so we can lounge around in comfort drinking cognac or something.

Can someone explain to me those enormous wheels? And what happens when you go over a bump? Presumably the whole rim move up and down as well?

    Gve me a D or a CX or a GS or a 2CV or a TA anyday!

The designers really have to get over their sci fi fetishes, guess its like a fashion parade really with these car shows, like look what you could be wearing if you wanted to look completely ridiculous?

" Sit up darling and tell me where we're going! Your psychiatrist? Well at least you're comfortable...."

" No this is St Kilda, Mars is 64000000 km away."

It's obviously a concept car to try out ideas, but think of the possibility of building electric motors inside the large wheels as has been done on some bikes and even the Smartdrive washing machine motor. A lot of mechanical complexity can be eliminated and interior space gained that way. Ground clearance doesn't look to be a problem. It showcases this technology ...

The 19_19 features an electric motor for each axle, delivering a total of 340kW of power and 800Nm of torque to all four wheels.Top speed is said to be 200km/h, while the 0-100km/h standard can be dispatched in 5.0 seconds.
Equipped with a 100kWh battery pack, the 19_19 has a claimed driving range of 800km using the WLTP cycle. The 19_19 is fitted with wireless charging, and a fast charger capable of boosting range by 595km in 20 minutes.

I hope Citroen goes broke before they release that car.

Seriously, all this worry about privacy. I live two doors away from a window tinting business. Specialises in black Audi SUVs. So you buy a car painted black, which is the most dangerous colour to have a car, it heats up more because of the colour so you tint the windows to keep the sun out. It gives you privacy. It also means the driver behind has a restricted view of the road and traffic ahead.

In the good old says, most cars in Australia were white. Not as hot, didn't show the dirt as much in the bush and window tinting, pioneered by American gangsters, was unknown. About the only cars that were black were hearses. They didn't bother tinting the windows because the bastard in the back was cold and could do with a bit of warmth.

That’s concept cars I suppose. I guess the chance of any of this making it remotely into production in the next 10 years is incredibly slim. It’s a lightning bolt stab at what a car of 30/40 years ahead might look like. I hope!!

They showcase technology; and then they have bizarre little touches - ideas that came up in a brainstorming session that seem better when they come out of your mouth, after a couple of tequilas, than reality. Look at the way they have abandoned headrests in the rear seats in favour of some sort of ludicrous hammock-like web of ropes. Seriously!?!

And of course the car has suicide doors. It seems that almost every concept car has suicide doors; and not a single car ever has them in production. Because they look “cool” and “futuristic”; but in reality are impractical and unsafe.

I’m only disappointed because I know CitroŽn have said they’re working on a new sedan; and I thought this concept (which has been teased for a little while) might hint at what it would look like. I’m sure it will look nothing like this. I suppose the “concept car” for a new sedan was already seen a few years ago with the Cxperience https://www.topgear.com/car-news/par...rience-concept

Funny how the Cxperience looks positively conservative compared to this 19_19 !

they've just moved on from Bladerunner to some Mars Rover dementia, I like the nod to the boat tail but still, it's 64000000 km from practical form follows function design. The CXexperince whatever was alot of Marc Newson pukeville. Retrofuturism yawn.

I've plugged the idea before, if passenger vehicles were all made of materials that just bounced you around like you were in a ball, with the emphasis on cushioning then perhaps not so many would die, if they had powerplants that were limited to decrease impact reactions, etc. I see the future as electric dodgem cars basically!

It does sorta, kinda look as though they only recently tripped over a Dodge Prowler ...
