What's the story they are quoting 150kw same as the 2.7 V6 hdi .
Totally different to the 2.0 90 kw unit ?

In a word, yes. The later 2.2, also fitted to the 508GT, developed the same 150kw that the V6 did, which is a measure of how much engines had advanced, in that short time.

The 2.0 did not have 90. Earlier 2.0 had 100kw (RHR) and after about 2010 had 120kw (RHH).

It's the reason the V6 HDi was dropped as there was no point in building two engines with similar outputs with one of them (V6) being more expensive to maintain and creating a very crowded engine bay.

The last of the X7 C5s were sold with a 2.2HDi replacing the 3.0HDi V6. The primary reason was apparently that importing the V6 would cost significantly more than the 2.2HDi, which had about the same performance and was simpler.

My understanding is that the full potential of the 3.0HDI was never realised in the C5 as there was insufficient room around the engine bay to fit an adequately sized transmission. Hence only 177kw and 450Nm torque. Without such restrictions, in the current Jag it has been developed to produce 221kw and 700Nm torque. Like that torque!
